Background: Wood was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. Because both of her parents were involved in the regional theatre company Theatre in the Park, she started acting at a very young age in local productions, including "A Christmas Carol" and "The Miracle Worker."
Filmography: She began her on-screen career in 1994 with roles in TV movies and a recurring role on the CBS drama series "American Gothic." Woods and her mother then moved to Los Angeles in 1996 where she was cast for one season on the TV drama "Profiler." Her big break came with the role of Jessie Sammler on the ABC drama series "Once and Again," which starred Sela Ward and Billy Campbell. Her film career has included roles in "Practical Magic," "Little Secrets," "The Missing," "The Upside of Anger," "Running with Scissors," "Across the Universe," "The Wrestler," "Whatever Works," and "The Conspirator." Her biggest film success was "Thirteen" co-starring Holly Hunter with critical raves and nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her return to television has included a guest starring role on the HBO drama series "True Blood" starring Anna Paquin and an Emmy-nominated role on the HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" starring Kate Winslet.
