DOB: March 31, 1971
Background: McGregor was born in Scotland, the nephew of actors Denis Lawson and Sheila Gish. He studied drama at the Guilghall School of Music and Drama.
Filmography: His film breakthrough came in 1996 when he was cast in Danny Boyle's film "Trainspotting." He later starred in "Little Voice" (1998) and made a guest appearance on NBC's "ER" that earned him an Emmy nomination. He achieved mainstream exposure in the role of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas's "Star Wars" prequels "The Phantom Menace" (1999), "Attack of the Clones" (2002), and "Revenge of the Sith" (2005). During that time he also starred in the Best Picture-nominated musical "Moulin Rouge!", the romantic comedy "Down with Love," and the indie film "Young Adam." He has since appeared in Michael Bay's "The Island" (2005). Last year he played Jim Carrey's lover in "I Love You Phillip Morris" and the title character in Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer," and as a lovelorn young man mourning the death of his father in "Beginners."
