Background: Paltrow is an American actress who was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and producer/director Bruce Paltrow. She attended Crossroads School in Santa Monica before moving to New York City to attend The Spence School. She studied art history at the University of California-Santa Barbara before leaving early to start a film career. She is married to the Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin and has two children.

Filmography: Her film debut was in the John Travolta movie "Shout" in 1991, followed by a small part in the Steven Spielberg movie "Hook." Other films that followed were "Malice," "Flesh and Bone," "Seven," "Emma," "Sliding Doors," "Great Expectations," "Hush," and "A Perfect Murder." She then won an Academy Award for her performance in the 1998 film "Shakespeare in Love." Other films that followed were "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Bounce," "The Royal Tenenbaums," "Sylvia," "Proof," "Running with Scissors," "Iron Man," and "Country Strong." She earned her first Emmy Award nomination in 2011 for her guest starring role on the Fox musical comedy "Glee."
