Background: Born in Louisiana, he pursued modeling from ages ten to thirteen, and at seventeen decided to begin an acting career.
Filmography: In 2000, Somerhalder was a regular cast member on the short-lived WB series "Young Americans," which was spun off from "Dawson's Creek." In 2002, he played the bisexual Paul Denton in "The Rules of Attraction," adapted from a Bret Easton Ellis novel. In 2004 he joined the cast of "Lost" as Boone Carlyle, a role he played in the first season and then in multiple guest appearances throughout the remainder of the series. He also had a role on the HBO series "Tell Me You Love Me." He currently plays vampire Damon Salvatore on the CW series "The Vampire Diaries."
