Members: Dave Haywood (b. July 5, 1982), Charles Kelley (b. September 11, 1981), Hillary Scott (b. April 1, 1986)

Background: The country trio was formed in 2006. Scott is the daughter of country singer Linda Davis, and Kelley is the brother of pop/country artist Josh Kelley; those music-industry relationships helped launch the band. Kelley convinced his middle-school classmate Haywood to move with him to Nashville, where they connected with Scott and formed the group. They signed with Capitol Records Nashville in 2007.

Discography: They released their debut single, "Love Don't Live Here" in September 2007 ahead of the April 2008 release of their self-titled debut album, which went platinum. But their crossover breakthrough came upon the 2009 release of the single "Need You Now," from an album of the same name. It peaked at number-two on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Adult Contemporary Chart, and won multiple Grammy Awards, including Record and Song of the Year. Their third studio album, "Own the Night," was released in September 2011.
