Background: Gedeck was born in Munich, Germany. She spent a year in the United States, after which she studied drama at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Filmography: She is known primarily for her work in her native Germany, including "The Lives of Others" (2006), a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar-winner, and "The Baader Meinhof Complex" (2008), which was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. She appeared in the Robert De Niro-directed spy drama "The Good Shepherd" (2007), and this year she will be seen in "The Door" alongside Helen Mirren.
