Background: Streep was educated at Vassar College and then the Yale School of Drama. She made her professional stage debut in "The Playboy of Seville" (1971), her TV debut in the telefilm "The Deadliest Season" (1977) and her screen debut in "Julia" (1977).
Filmography: After an acclaimed performance in the miniseries "Holocaust," for which she won Best TV Movie/Mini Actress at the Emmys, Streep appeared in two Best Picture champs in a row -- "The Deer Hunter" (1978) and "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979) -- contending for Best Supporting Actress for the former and winning it for the latter. Since then she has starred in three dozen films. She has earned a record 16 Oscar nominations, winning two, and a record 25 Golden Globe nominations, winning seven.
