Background: She is part of the famed Redgrave acting family, the daughter of actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, sister of Lynn Regrave and Corin Redgrave, and the mother of Natasha Richardson and Joely Richardson. She was born in Greenwich, London, and attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in 1954.

Filmography: She performed on stage before her first starring role on film, "Morgan!" (1966), which earned her an award from the Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In total, she has received six Oscar nominations, winning for her supporting role in "Julia" (1977), and has won a Tony Award and two Emmys. Her extensive film credits include "A Man for All Seasons" (1966), "Blow Up" (1966), "Camelot" (1967), "Isadora" (1968), "Murder on the Orient Express" (1974), "The Bostonians" (1984), "Howards End" (1992), "Mission: Impossible" (1996), "Wilde" (1997), "Mrs. Dalloway" (1997), "Deep Impact" (1998), "Atonement" (2007), and a recurring role on the TV series "Nip/Tuck." She was recently seen in the 2010 romance "Letters to Juliet," and this year she appears in "The Whistleblower" with Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes's "Coriolanus."
