Background: Actor Harrelson is a Texas native whose father was arrested and convicted as a contract killer and eventually died in prison. He earned a bachelor's degree in English and theater arts in 1983.

Filmography: He played bartender Woody Boyd on the sitcom "Cheers" from 1985 to 1993, winning an Emmy in 1989. Afterwards, he appeared in the comedy "Kingpin" and in guest starring roles on "Spin City" and "Will & Grace," but he made a successful transition to drama in films like "Natural Born Killers," "The Thin Red Line," and "The People vs. Larry Flynt," for which he received his first of two Oscar nominations. His other notable films include "North Country," "A Prairie Home Companion," "Zombieland," the Coen Brothers' Oscar-winning "No Country for Old Men," and "The Messenger," in which he played a death notification officer for the military, a role that earned him his second Oscar nod.
