Background: Deschanel is an American actress and singer who was born in Los Angeles, California. Her father is Caleb Deschanel, a celebrated film cinematographer and director. After attending Northwestern University for a short while, she dropped out to pursue an acting career.

Filmography: She made her film debut in the 1999 film "Mumford" and followed with "Almost Famous," "Manic," "Big Trouble," "Abandon," "The Good Girl," "All the Real Girls," "Eulogy," The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Failure to Launch," "Yes Man," and "500 Days of Summer." She is now starring on the Fox comedy series "New Girl."
