All five of the BAFTA contenders for Best Picture are also nominated in the same category at the Academy Awards. The only three with corresponding BAFTA nods for directing are "Argo" (Ben Affleck), "Life of Pi" (Ang Lee), and "Zero Dark Thirty" (Kathryn Bigelow).
The BAFTAs have foreseen six of the 12 Best Picture Oscar winners -- "Gladiator" (2000), "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" (2003), "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008), "The Hurt Locker" (2009) "The King's Speech" (2010), and "The Artist" (2011) -- since these kudos were moved up in 2000 to take place while academy members are still voting.
