Razzies: Worst Director - Overview

Bill Condon has an Oscar for his screenplay for "Gods and Monsters" (1998). Now he's a virtual lock for a Razzie nod for the latest "Twilight." Though his film is clearly better than some of the previous films, voters would vote for Martin Scorsese if he'd directed this "Twilight" movie.

When his "George Washington" came out in 2000, David Gordon Green was considered one of the most promising arthouse directors of the new millennium. But now he just directs awful stoner comedies. How the mighty have fallen.

Dugan was previously cited in Worst Director for "Big Daddy" (1999) and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" (2007). Both films starred Adam Sandler, as do his contenders this year "Just Go with It" and "Jack and Jill." Dugan and Sandler are a combination the Razzies surely cannot resist this year.

No one likes Kevin James and no one likes who signs up to direct him in anything. Sorry, Frank Coraci, but keep that in mind the next time someone offers you a job on something like "Zookeeper."

Gary Marshall is a million years old and has directed beloved, but not very good flicks like "Pretty Woman" (1990). While "New Year's Eve" is bound to make a lot of cash, it's also sure to get under critics' skin. It would be fitting if Marshall finally got a Razzie nod for a career's worth of mediocrity.

Remaking "Arthur"? Not a good idea. Directing that remake? Even worse. But if Jason Winer is determined to kill his career and get a Razzie nomination, who are we to stop him? He may get edged out by heavier hitters, however.

Back in 1997, Schumacher was shortlisted for his disastrous "Batman & Robin." Like that film, his "Trespass" is not impressing critics and is doing less than stellar box office business. Considering Schumacher is one of the least respected names in the business, it is odd he has only a single Worst Director nod.

They're still making "Big Mommas" movies? Stop it, John Whitesell. He's an outside shot for a Razzie nod, but no one would complain if he squeezed in.

Everyone loves to hate Michael Bay. His movies may make a fortune, but they are critically reviled. The Razzies have nodded him for "Armageddon" (1998) and "Pearl Harbor" (2001). Back in 2009, he won for the last "Transformers" installment. He seems likely to get his fourth nomination this year.

"Chipwrecked" is the second sequel in the increasingly disliked movie franchise. Its director, Mike Mitchell, has never been nominated for a Razzie, but he previously presided over Worst Picture nominee "Surviving Christmas," as well as "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo," "Sky High," and "Shrek Forever After."

Paul Johansson's lambasted adaptation of Any Rand's classic "Atlas Shrugged" could easily be the wannabe prestige nominee this year. If not, he can always get in for "Part II!"

There is no precedent for a documentary getting nominated for Worst Director at the Razzies. But then there has never really been a documentary like "The Undefeated," a propaganda film supporting Sarah Palin. Bannon could be poised to make history.

Directing a hated comedy is a surefire way to get the Razzies' attention. Tom Brady (not the quarterback) had critics smearing his name after they watched "Bucky Larson." Brady is a threat not just to get nominated, but to win on his first nomination.

This gross "Human Centipede" sequel was written and directed by Tom Six. If Razzie voters can squirm through the horror flick, they might be disgusted enough to recognize Six as one of the year's worst directors.
