SAG (TV): TV Comedy Actress - Overview

How did the other ladies even stand a chance last year competing against the woman who had received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award the year before? It turned out they didn't stand a chance against Betty White, who won as Best TV Comedy Actress for "Hot in Cleveland," by defeating Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Jane Lynch ("Glee"), and Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family").

All of those women have prior SAG wins (either individually or in an ensemble) and were also nominated at the Emmy Awards in September. They are all on this year's SAG ballot in this category, which combines lead and supporting performers. The two most Emmy winners, Melissa McCarthy ("Mike and Molly") and Julie Bowen ("Modern Family") could also be competing here, as could other Emmy nominees Cloris Leachman and Martha Plimpton ("Raising Hope"), Laura Linney ("The Big C"), and Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation"). Bowen and Linney are past SAG winners.

Other possible contenders could be Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph ("Up All Night"), Toni Collette ("United States of Tara"), Whitney Cummings ("Whitney"), Kat Dennings ("2 Broke Girls"), Laura Dern ("Enlightened"), Zooey Deschanel ("New Girl"), Patricia Heaton ("The Middle"), and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds"). Only Collette and Heaton have won at SAG before, both for ensemble work.
