All of the nominees save category newcomers Foo Fighters have contended in this race at least once but none has won.
PEOPLE'S CHOICE : Band
British rockers Coldplay have been popular throughout the last decade, but this is only their third People's Choice nomination. They were nominated in this category in 2009 as well as Favorite Rock Song for "Viva La Vida." Their new album, "Mylo Xyloto," was released in October.
The Foo Fighters have been on the music scene for more than fifteen years, but this is their first People's Choice Award nomination. Their seventh studio album, "Wasting Light," was released earlier in 2011 and has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales over half a million copies.
Rap-rock group Linkin Park was nominated for the first time in 2008 for Favorite Song from a Soundtrack for their "Transformers" contribution, titled "What I've Done." They were nominated in this category last year, but have yet to win.
Maroon 5 are Grammy winners and have received multiple People's Choice nominations but they have yet to win. Their most recent album, "Hands All Over," was released in September 2010 and has not sold as well as anticipated, certified gold by the RIAA, but it recently produced one of the group's biggest hits, "Moves Like Jagger," which peaked at number-one on Billboard's Hot 100, the first chart-topping for Maroon 5 since 2007. The band's profile has also been raised by lead singer Adam Levine's participation on NBC's hit singing competition series "The Voice."
Red Hot Chili P
Red Hot Chili Peppers are veteran recording artists. The group formed in 1983, and since then they have won seven Grammy Awards. They were previously nominated in this category in 2007. They have yet to win.
