Newcomer Michel Hazanavicius could overtake the veterans for his "The Artist" script. Woody Allen ("Midnight in Paris") won this prize in 1985 for "The Purple Rose of Cairo." Alexander Payne won on his last two nominations for his "About Schmidt" (2002) and "Sideways" (2004) scripts. "Moneyball" writers Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin won for "Schindler's List" (1993) and "The Social Network" (2010) respectively. George Clooney and Grant Heslov lost their screenplay bid for "Good Night, and Good Luck" (2005) and the same will surely be true for their "The Ides of March" adaptation.
