The Oscar shortlist for Best Makeup has narrowed the race down to seven films. There will be three nominees.
Aging makeup in "The Iron Lady" and "Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life" will take on the showier work in the imagined world of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."
Best Picture frontrunner "The Artist" is a surprising addition here. There is some period styling in the film. Hairstyling -- like Jean Dujardin's slicked back hairdo -- contributes to the makeup branch's decision-making process. This also surely helped "Hugo" go the distance.
Don't count out the lavish work in Elizabethan era "Anonymous" or the late 19th century-set "Albert Nobbs."
