All six of last year's Emmy Award nominees for Best Comedy Actress are eligible to contend again in 2012, but there are also several other strong candidates hoping to push into the field. 2011 winner Melissa McCarthy ("Mike and Molly"), previous winners Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie") and Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), and nominees Laura Linney ("The Big C"), Martha Plimpton ("Raising Hope"), and Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation") are the ladies who would like to return.
Actresses from rookie shows include Christina Applegate ("Up All Night"), Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings ("2 Broke Girls"), Leslie Bibb ("GCB"), Whitney Cummings ("Whitney"), Laura Dern ("Enlightened"), Zooey Deschanel ("New Girl"), Fran Drescher ("Happily Divorced"), Lena Dunham ("Girls"), Jane Levy ("Suburgatory"), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Veep"), and Ashley Rickards ("Awkward").
From returning laffers, the possibilities are Courteney Cox ("Cougar Town"), Brooke Elliott ("Drop Dead Diva"), Patricia Heaton ("The Middle"), Felicity Huffman ("Desperate Housewives"), Lea Michele ("Glee"), and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds").
