Miranda Lambert is the two-time defending champion in this category. She has also won Album of the Year in 2007 ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") and 2009 ("Revolution"). She is nominated in that category again this year for "Four the Record."
Carrie Underwood is also a previous winner of this category, claiming it three times (2007-2009) until Lambert began her winning streak. Underwood also won Entertainer of the Year twice (2008, 2009).
Veteran country singer Martina McBride also won Female Vocalist three times (2001-2003), but she has not won an ACM Award since then. This is her only nomination this year.
Sara Evans's one previous ACM Award victory came in this category, which she won in 2005. Like McBride, this is her only nomination this year.
Taylor Swift is the only woman in this category also nominated for Entertainer of the Year, but despite winning that category last year, as well as Album of the Year in 2008 for "Fearless," she is the only nominee in this category who has never won it.
