The Emmy Awards category of Best Drama Actor is guaranteed to have a different winner this time around since Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights") is no longer eligible. However, prior three-time winner Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") returns to battle again, as do the other five nominees from 2011: Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire"), Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), Jon Hamm ("Mad Men"), Hugh Laurie ("House"), and Timothy Olyphant ("Justified").
Among the more interesting names making a first attempt are five-time Emmy winner and reigning Golden Globe champ Kelsey Grammer ("Boss"), two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman ("Luck"), and two-time Emmy winner Kiefer Sutherland ("Touch"). Other contenders from freshman shows include Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht ("Suits"), Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson ("Person of Interest"), Jason Isaacs ("Awake"), Damian Lewis ("Homeland"), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Magic City").
A few other possibilities from ongoing series are Simon Baker ("The Mentalist"), Mark Harmon ("NCIS"), Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy"), Jeremy Irons ("The Borgias"), Peter Krause ("Parenthood"), Denis Leary ("Rescue Me"), Andrew Lincoln ("The Walking Dead"), William H. Macy ("Shameless"), and Tom Selleck ("Blue Bloods").
