Nine-time reigning Emmy Awards champion "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" headlines the contenders once again for Best Variety Series. All of last year's nominees are also eligible for continued nods: "The Colbert Report," "Conan," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," "Real Time with Bill Maher," and "Saturday Night Live." The only one in that group to previously win the category was "SNL" with victories in 1976 and 1993.
Six-time previous winner "Late Show with David Letterman" would like to make a return attempt, as would one-time champ "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
Two rookie shows making a first effort are "Inside Comedy" (hosted by David Steinberg) and "Kathy" (hosted by Kathy Griffin).
None of the other shows on the ballot have been nominated here before. They include "Attack of the Show!," "Chelsea Lately," "Green Room with Paul Provenza," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Last Call with Carson Daly," "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," "Portlandia," "The Soup," "Tosh.0," and "Watch What Happens Live."
