Producers hoping for a victory in the Emmy Awards race for Best TV Movie/Miniseries are breathing sighes of relief that last year's champ "Downton Abbey" was transferred from this category over to Best Drama Series. Two other Brit imports are contending in its place: "Luther" (with Idris Elba) and "Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia" (with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman).
The four American contenders are led by "American Horror Story" (with Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, and Jessica Lange), a FX series that was reclassified as each season will tell a completely different story with new characters.
HBO, which owned the TV movie category before it was merged with minis, has both the poilitical drama "Game Change" (with Julianne Moore, Ed Harris, and Woody Harrelson) and the biopic "Hemingway and Gellhorn" (with Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen).
Rounding out the race is History's highly rated "Hatfields and McCoys" (with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton).
