Kelsey Grammer ("Boss") was last year's Globe champ as Best TV Drama Actor but could not translate that victory into an Emmy nomination. His competition was the previous winner Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire"), three-time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), Jeremy Irons ("The Borgias"), and this year's Emmy king Damian Lewis ("Homeland").
All of those men return to the race next time and could face off against previous winners Michael C. Hall ("Dexter") and Jon Hamm ("Mad Men") plus past nominees Simon Baker ("The Mentalist") and Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey").
Freshman shows could produce some nods, and those in the hunt are Dave Annable ("666 Park Avenue"), Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman ("Last Resort"), Billy Burke ("Revolution"), Michael Chiklis and Dennis Quaid ("Vegas"), Jeff Daniels ("The Newsroom"), Michael Ealy and Warren Kole ("Common Law"), Dustin Hoffman ("Luck"), Eric McCormack ("Perception"), Jonny Lee Miller ("Elementary"), Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Magic City"), Anson Mount ("Hell on Wheels"), Jesse Spencer ("Chicago Fire"), Kiefer Sutherland ("Touch"), and Tom Weston-Jones ("Copper").
Men who have tried before for current roles are Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht ("Suits"), Matt Bomer ("White Collar"), Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson ("Person of Interest"), David Giuntoli ("Grimm"), Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy"), Peter Krause ("Parenthood"), Andrew Lincoln ("The Walking Dead"), William H. Macy ("Shameless"), Timothy Olyphant ("Justified"), Tom Selleck ("Blue Bloods"), and Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey").
