The National Board of Review selected "Hugo" as their Best Picture of 2011. Along with "Hugo," the other films in their Top 10 to then receive Academy Awards nominations as Best Picture were "The Artist" (Oscar winner), "The Descendants," "The Tree of Life," and "War Horse." The other half of their Top 10 - "Drive," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," "The Ides of March," and "J. Edgar" - did not receive Best Picture nods.
Since 2000, 11 of the 12 NBR Best Picture winners went on to at least contend at the Oscars, if not win the Academy Award; the exception -- "Quills" (2000).
Two NBR Best Picture champs also won Oscars: "No Country for Old Men" (2007) and "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008).
Nine of the NBR Best Picture honorees were Oscar nominees: "Moulin Rouge" (2001), "The Hours" (2002), "Mystic River" (2003), "Finding Neverland" (2004), "Good Night, and Good Luck" (2005), "Letters from Iwo Jima" (2006), "Up in the Air" (2009), "The Social Network" (2010), and "Hugo" (2011).
