Since 2000, 10 of the 12 NYFCC Best Director winners went on to at least contend at the Oscars, if not win the Academy Award; the exceptions -- Todd Haynes ("Far From Heaven," 2002) and Mike Leigh ("Happy-Go-Lucky," 2008).
Seven NYFCC Best Director champs also won Oscars: Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic," 2000), Clint Eastwood ("Million Dollar Baby," 2004), Ang Lee ("Brokeback Mountain," 2005), Martin Scorsese ("The Departed," 2006), Joel and Ethan Coen ("No Country for Old Men," 2007), Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker," 2009) and Michel Hazanavicius ("The Artist," 2011)
Three of the NYFCC Best Director honorees were Oscar nominees: Robert Altman ("Gosford Park," 2001) Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation," 2003) and David Fincher ("The Social Network," 2010).
