Since 2000, 11 of the 12 NYFCC Best Actor winners went on to at least contend at the Oscars, if not win the Academy Award; the exception was Paul Giamatti ("Sideways," 2004).
Four NYFCC Best Actor champs also won Oscars: Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland," 2006), Daniel Day-Lewis ("There Will Be Blood," 2007), Sean Penn ("Milk," 2008) and Colin Firth ("The King's Speech," 2010).
Seven of the NYFCC Best Actor honorees were Oscar nominees: Tom Hanks ("Cast Away," 2000), Tom Wilkinson ("In the Bedroom," 2001), Day-Lewis ("Gangs of New York," 2002), Bill Murray ("Lost in Translation," 2003), Heath Ledger ("Brokeback Mountain," 2005), George Clooney ("Up in the Air," 2009) and Brad Pitt ("Moneyball," 2011). The NYFCC also cited Pitt for "The Tree of Life."
