Her Best Actress nomination for 'Albert Nobbs' should be cause for celebration, but Glenn Close is a longshot to win the award, which probably means she is about to become the biggest Oscar loser among female actors. She'll share that record with Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter, who both got skunked six times. Kerr was later awarded an Honorary Oscar in 1994 for her body of work. One actress had seven nominations without winning -- Geraldine Page -- but she finally won on her eighth try, for 'The Trip to Bountiful' in 1985. Peter O'Toole holds the record among men with eight defeats, no wins.
