Sorry for making you guys wait. Without further ado, voting is now open for nominations for the 11th Annual Goldie Awards for Excellence in Daytime Television:

The rules are as follows. PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING:

    – Voting for nominees will last until Friday, April 18, 11:59pm ET.

    – You may only vote if you are a registered member as of today, March 26, 2014.

    – In each category, select your top 3 candidates, ranked from 1st to 3rd. Your top choice will receive 5 points, your second will receive 3, your third will receive 2.

    – The online versions of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” ARE eligible for consideration.

    – Since there are once again 6 soaps in contention, Drama Series, Writing, Directing, Casting, and Ensemble are once again open for voting in the nominations round. There will be three final nominees in each category, unless there are ties.

    – If you feel an actor is on the borderline between categories, you may vote for him in multiple categories if you wish. If an actor receives enough points to be nominated in both races, he will be nominated in the category where he scored more points.

    – You may vote in as many or as few categories as you like. If you DO vote in a category, you MUST vote for 3 candidates, or that category won’t be counted.

Your ballot will only be considered if it includes at least TWO soaps on it. This is to discourage voters from stacking the deck for one particular soap. If you believe, for instance, that “B&B” had the three best lead actresses, that’s fine, but don’t submit a ballot with only “B&B” actors on it.

Send your ballot to me via private message. To do so, hover your cursor over my name and select “Send Message” from the drop down menu. In case of a problem with the PM system, when you submit your ballot, please also post a message in this thread saying that you have submitted a ballot. If for any reason I have not received it, I’ll provide an email address and you may resubmit it that way.

    – FYCs are okay, but DO NOT post your entire ballot in this thread.

    VOTING CATEGORIES ARE AS FOLLOWS

    – Drama Series

    – Drama Writing

    – Drama Directing

    – Drama Ensemble Cast

    – Drama Casting

    – Lead Actor

    – Lead Actress

    – Supporting Actor

    – Supporting Actress

    – Younger Actor

    – Younger Actress

    – Limited/Guest Performance

    – Talk/Service Show

    – Game Show

    – Host (Talk/Game/Service)

    – Lifetime Achievement (For a living individual. Previous winners are ineligible: David Canary, Agnes Nixon, Helen Wagner, Eileen Fulton, Susan Lucci)

    – Legacy Award (For a deceased individual. Previous winners are ineligible: William J. Bell, Beverlee McKinsey, Frances Reid, Helen Wagner, Irna Phillips, Jeanne Cooper, John Ingle, Douglas Marland)

Yay! Even though I am a check in kind of soap watcher these days, I did actually manage to see enough to be an inform participant when I thought that wasn’t going to be the case. All of the eligible soaps did something for me. iAMC’s writing, B&B always being frothy unapologetic fun, DAYS evolution into a character driven ensemble piece with Queen Eileen being magic, “General Hospital Starring Maura West”, and the acting on Y&R (Michael and Lauren’s marriage drama before it became silly and Delia’s death). iOLTL was the only one that held an interest for a minute and then really fell apart.

Ooh, I just realized we got the younger acting categories back!  How exciting!

Quick question: Are the rules for limited/guest performance the same as with the other categories, or are we playing by the rule that if anyone gets a vote in a supporting (or lead I guess, though that’d be crazy) category would be disqualified from the limited/guest performance category?

Also, are we allowed to ask and openly discuss what category we think actors belong in?  Like, if I wanted to vote for Maura West, hypothetically, am I allowed to ask the board in this thread or a new one whether she they think she should be lead or supporting?  I don’t know who I’m voting for yet, but I’d like to avoid double voting an actor as much as I possibly can.

    FYC:
    Outstanding Limited/Guest Performance
Laura Kai Chen — Prosecutor Melinda Trask, DAYS
Meredith Scott Lynn — Ann Millbauer, DAYS

EmmyLoser, I would just go off of the Emmy pre-nom list or you own opinion when it comes to someone being in a borderline situation. For example (and I don’t know if I’m voting for her), I would place Ari Zucker in supporting on a personal ballot since I feel she was a supporting actress from what I saw of the show last year.

Ballot sent!  Which is odd, considering I’m usually one of the straglers haha.

    FYC:
    Supporting Actress:  Amelia Heinle
    Lifetime Acheivement:  Jill Larson
    Legacy Award: Darlene Conley
Limited/Guest Performance:  Vanessa Marcil for the awesomeness that was the Brenda/Carly food and Metro Court fights.

Thanks, I’ll probably do just that.  It’s all hypothetical right now, since I haven’t decided a lot of who I’m voting for yet, and the people I do know I’m voting for seem pretty firmly in one category or the other.

For Lifetime Achievement, I chose Robin Strasser (: I was so happy we got to see her again as Dorian on the online One Life To Live (:

    I found it really impossible to limit to only 3 per category! (: But I somehow did it. I did screw up and wrote Douglas Marland, who is ineligible since he already got a Legacy award in the past ): I should read these things more carefully! (;

    Lead or Support is so often in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it? For me, a Lead is anyone who I watch the show to see on a daily basis! (;

^^^ I like that definition!  I feel like we’ve had the discussion so many times now, but there are rarely any really firm conclusions for gray area folks.  You’re a lead if you’re on every day and stories in which you’re a main character, but you’re supporting if you show up maybe once a week to facilitate a story here or there.  But what if you used to be the undisputed star of your show and now show up in somewhere around half the episodes and create some drama but also mostly play a reactionary or spoiler-type part?  Could a character like Erica Kane ever have been supporting, for example?  I think about it a lot.

    Sorry for the late answer.

I think a fair way to do that is you ARE still eligible for limited/guest if you also get a vote for supporting, but NOT if you get a vote for lead. And yes, that has already happened, LOL. Happened last year too.

And yes, please feel free to openly discuss category placements. Seems only fair to keep that discussion open and active to give borderline contender their best chance if they have enough support to get into one category or the other.

Thanks, Daniel.  I seem to be the straggler of this group!
