Does anyone know if it true that all the pre noms can make a best of reel up to 20 minutes with of material from 2012?
I don’t know, but that sounds like an interesting prospect. My immediate reaction is very negative.
While I get it in theory, I agree that on first impressions I don’t co-sign w/this.
I can’t help but feel like a change like this would make the system so heavy on strategy that the actual performances would matter less and less. Some actors spend months playing the same storylines, in some cases basically the same scenes with very similar dialogue. I can imagine an actor who only does one emotion per day cobbling together a reel that seems dynamic when in reality the performances are always flat. I can also see that, in a year where several actors I would have loved to see on the ballot decided not to even submit, the pressure of putting this much effort into getting a prenomination would deter even more deserving nominees than the system already has. I could maybe get behind the idea of actors submitting up to twenty minutes or one episode of sequential material, like starting at the end of one episode and working through the next one, or taking halves of two consecutive episodes together because they work best that way. That seems not so crazy.
