I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few but here are some actresses who ought to have been nominated for their roles on various soaps (I only included actresses who were on their shows since 1973-74, the first year of competitive daytime Emmys for actresses)

AMC: Kate Collins (Natalie and Janet), Kay Campbell (Grandma Kate), Judith Barcroft (Anne Tyler), Robin Mattson (Janet Green) (nominated for General Hospital and Santa Barbara), Barbara Rush (Nola)

AW: Anna Stuart (Donna), Constance Ford (Ada), Judi Evans (Paulina) (she won for Guiding Light), Alicia Coppola (Lorna), Lisa Peluso, Alice Barrett Mitchell (Frankie), Denise Alexander (Mary) (she was nominated for General Hospital), Carmen Duncan (Iris), Gail Brown (Clarice), Nancy Frangione (Cecile)

ATWT: Kathryn Hays (Kim), Hillary B. Smith (Margo) (she won for One Life To Live), Margaret Colin (Margo), Jennifer Ashe, Susan Marie Snyder (Julie), Marie Masters (Susan), Lindsay Frost (Betsy), Melanie Smith (Emily)

Days: Alison Sweeney (Sami), Camila Banus (Gabi)

    The Doctors: Jada Rowland (Carolee)

The Edge Of Night: Frances Fisher (Nola)

GH: Constance Towers (Helena), Amber Tamblyn (Emily)

    Generations: Mina Kolb

GL: Lisa Brown (Nola) (she was nominated for As The World Turns), Beverlee McKinsey (Alexandra) (she was nominated for Another World), Jane Elliot (Carrie) (she won for General Hospital and was nominated for Days Of Our Lives)

Love Of Life: Tudi Wiggins (Meg)

Loving: Nada Rowand (Kate), Lauren Marie Taylor, Jennifer Ashe

OLTL: Gina Tognoni (Kelly) (she won for Guiding Light), Catherine Hickland (Lindsay), Melissa Archer (Natalie), Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle) (she was nominated for Guiding Light)

Passions: Robin Strasser (Hecuba) (she won for One Life To Live)

Ryan’s Hope: Kate Mulgrew (Mary), Sarah Felder (Siobhan), Marg Helgenberger (Siobhan), Ilene Kristen (Delia) (she was nominated for One Life to Live), Catherine Hicks (Faith), Karen Morris-Gowdy (Faith), Diana van der Vlis (Nell), Yasmine Bleeth (Ryan), Felicity La Fortune (Leigh)

Search For Tomorrow: Maree Cheatham (Stephanie), Marcia McCabe (Sunny)

    Y&R: Brenda Dickson (Jill)

Not sure many people would have thougth some of these women “ought” to have been nominated like Sarah Felder, Jennifer Ashe, Melissa Archer or Brenda Dixon.  I often wonder what the Emmy landscape would have looked like if they had allowed more nominees and, if in the early 1980s, ABC hadn’t dominated the awards.

Kind of amazing that Judi Evans was never nominated for Paulina on AW, her best role, especially when she’s been nominated for playing Bonnie on DAYS.

^^^not to mention her win for Guiding Light when she really wasn’t that good.  In fact, I never thought much of her as an actress until she was on AW.

Are we sure that she was nominated for playing Bonnie? I recall she submitted 2 different reels for that nomination, one was a bonnie reel and one was an adrienne reel.

And to add to the list

    RENEE JONES AS LEXIE CARVER

never nominated and definitely should have been.

It still stings that Robin Mattson wasn’t nominated for her work as Janet on All My Children. She rocked that role for six or seven years. I’m still holding out hope she can win for GH, even though she was snubbed of a nomination last year and didn’t even submit her name this year.

Poor Catherine Hickland only submitted her name once and that was the year of Lindsay’s confession of killing what’s-his-face in Marcie’s defense and also her nervous breakdown on the court stand.

Another GH non-nominee was the wonderful Anna Lee.
