Daytime Confidential is confirming today that Dena Higley is taking a leave of absence from DAYS OF OUR LIVES due to personal reasons.

Soap Opera Network is reporting that Sony is bringing Beth Milstein over from Y&R to assist Josh Griffith, who is going to remain in the headwriting position.  Milstein will be exclusively writing for DAYS going forward.

Dena Higley was brought in by TPTB along with Josh Griffith earlier in the year to replace fired headwriting team Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell.  No word on when or if she will be back.

Hmmm.  Well, I hope everything is okay with Dena Higley and her family.  I don’t even know what to say about how the change will affect the show, since, six months after the annoucement was made about the writing change, their material has yet to air at all.  It does seem odd how Sony just plucks people from Y&R and sends them to DAYS, like they kind of did with Eileen Davidson a few years ago.  But the results of that were incredible, so maybe this will be a great partnership with Griffith and Beth Milstein (she was also at DAYS for a while previously, right?).

Yes, definitely hope everything is ok with Dena Higley. To think that this news is hitting before the new material even starts. In the meantime, best of luck to Milstein… we’ll see her work in February 2016?

Wow, it’s always sad to hear that anyone from the soap community is struggling personally.

Milstein has been in and out of Y&R and Days a few times in varying roles over many years, and was even at B&B for a bit.  I feel like the specifics of her work are relatively unknown to the audience though.  Does anyone know anything major that can be credited back to her?

Beth Milstein has an extensive history with DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

    Interim Headwriter – 2006
    Co-Headwriter – 1992
    Associate Headwriter – 1987-1992 and 2006-2007
    Associate Producer – 1981-1987

She was part of the writing team responsible for much of the late 80’s and early 90’s stories…was responsible in 2006 for the transition period between James Reilly & Hogan Sheffer.

Yeah, that’s quite a history with DAYS.  Maybe she wants to bring Carrie/Christie Clark back???
