I have been collecting my thoughts around these threads to respond with my choices, but in the meantime, just for clarity, there is an error in years starting at 1997.  Jess Walton won in 1997 and Watros won in 1998.  Both lists here read as two winners in 1997, and then all the subsequent years are off by one therein as well.

Gdfl you are correct in that the award was presented at that time but it was for work aired in the previous year. For awards where two years are listed the cutoff was usually somewhere in the first quarter (Feb. sweeps iirc). So for example the iconic win by Susan Lucci in 1999 was for work from 1998.

^^  Thanks tennisfreak.  But then I wonder if we should have consistency in how we name them.  NATAS names the awards for the year of the ceremony, not the year that the work aired.  For example, officially, Eileen Davidson was the 2014 winner at the 41st ceremony, with no (official) reference to the fact that the work aired the year before. IDK, for me consistently using the official year makes it less confusing, especially when considering actors with multiple consecutive nominations.

Alright, here goes, with potentially the other categories to follow.  I just started as far back as I remember watching and having some sort of meaningful opinion.

    1997, Jess Walton, Y&R
    1998, Eileen Davidson, DOOL
    1999, Melody Thomas Scott, Y&R
    2000, Finola Hughes, AMC
    2001, Martha Byrne, ATWT
    2002, Colleen Zenk Pinter, ATWT
2003, Eileen Davidson, Y&R (with Michelle Stafford as a very close runner up)
    2004, Michelle Stafford, Y&R
    2005, Kassie Depaiva, OLTL
2006, Kim Zimmer, GL (what a weak year)
    2007, Maura West, ATWT
2008, Nicole Forester, GL (with Jeanne Cooper as a very close runner up)
    2009, Susan Haskell, OLTL
    2010, Maura West, ATWT
    2011, Laura Wright, GH
    2012, Laura Wright, GH
2013, Heather Tom, B&B  (with Michelle Stafford as a very close runner up)
    2014, Eileen Davidson, DOOL
    2015, Laura Wright, GH

Closing comment: Three Emmys for Laura Wright may seem like a lot, but all I am saying is that I would have voted for her on each of her nominations, and probably even more frequently if she was nominated before 2011.

^^I’ll take three Emmys for Laura Wright if it also gets three Emmys for Eileen Davidson.  I may follow your lead on this and do a partial list that goes back 10 or 15 years, to when I started paying a little more attention to soaps other than just the ones on NBC.

I began watching the Daytime Emmys when they returned to television with the 1984-85 season. As I viewed the first several years’ ceremonies, I wanted Susan Lucci to win for “All My Children”—and this was just a rooting spirit; not so much a critical analysis. In hindsight, the following are the ones I think should have won (out of those nominated).

1984-85: Kim Zimmer, “Guiding Light” (CBS)

1985-86: Erika Slezak, “One Life to Live” (ABC)

1986-87: Susan Lucci, “All My Children” (ABC)

1987-88: Helen Gallagher, “Ryan’s Hope” (ABC)

1988-89: Marcy Walker, “Santa Barbara” (NBC)

1989-90: Finola Hughes, “General Hospital” (ABC)

1990-91: Finola Hughes, “General Hospital” (ABC)

1991-92: Jessica Tuck, “One Life to Live” (ABC)

1992-93: Linda Dano, “Another World” (NBC)

1993-94: Hillary B. Smith, “One Life to Live” (ABC)

1994-95: Leslie Charleson, “General Hospital” (ABC)

1995-96: Susan Lucci, “All My Children” (ABC)

1996-97: Genie Francis, “General Hospital” (ABC)

1997-98: Cynthia Watros, “Guiding Light” (CBS)

1998-99: Jeanne Cooper, “The Young and the Restless” (CBS)

1999-2000: Susan Flannery, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS)

2000-01: Martha Byrne, “As the World Turns” (CBS)

2001-02: Colleen Zenk-Pinter, “As the World Turns” (CBS)

2002-03: Nancy Lee Grahn, “General Hospital” (ABC)

2003-04: Tamara Braun, “General Hospital” (ABC)

    2004-05: [It didn’t matter]

2005-06: Beth Ehlers, “Guiding Light” (CBS)

2006-07: Kim Zimmer, “Guiding Light” (CBS)

    2007-08: [It didn’t matter]

2008-09: Debbi Morgan, “All My Children” (ABC)

2009-10: Crystal Chappell, “Guiding Light” (CBS)

2010-11: Colleen Zenk, “As the World Turns” (CBS)

2011-12: Debbi Morgan, “All My Children” (ABC)

2012-13: Peggy McCay, “Days of Our Lives” (NBC)

2013-14: Eileen Davidson, “Days of Our Lives” (NBC)

2014-15: Alison Sweeney, “Days of Our Lives” (NBC)

    N O T E S . . .
I felt none of the nominees in 2005 and 2008 merited winning. (Nominations in best actress were FUBAR.)
In some years I found my selection was for the “most acceptable”; given the one most deserving was not nominated. There is no better example than with Beverlee McKinsey, the best overall performance in these 30 years’ worth of listings, for her 1991-92 season on “Guiding Light.” (Her nomination denial rendered the Daytime Emmys irrelevant. I still feel that way. We manage to get satisfying lead-acting not too frequently. 2014 was a miracle. With most other years…they’re regrettable.)
There were those who won in a different category but should have won in lead actress. (This is especially the case with Anne Heche, for her 1990-91 season, for her work on “Another World.)
There were those who have won…but did so in a different season. (I was in tune with Maura West’s unique work, on “As the World Turns,” before nominating voters first singled her out for supporting actress in 2001. She should have won lead actress for the 1998-99 season.)
My opinions on this go beyond what I feel up to conveying here in this thread. (This was orginally submitted from my iPhone. I edited it 11.16.2015.) But, for anyone feeling I inexcusably left someone out without properly due commentary…oh, well.

    1978: Victoria Wyndham, AW
    1979: Susan Seaforth Hayes, DOOL
    1980: Judith Light, OLTL
    1981: Judith Light, OLTL
    1982: Robin Strasser, OLTL
    1983: Dorothy Lyman, AMC
    1984: Erika Slezak, OLTL
    1985: Robin Strasser, OLTL
    1986: Erika Slezak, OLTL

    1988: Marcy Walker, SB
    1989: Marcy Walker, SB
    1990: Kim Zimmer, GL
    1991: Finola Hughes, GH
    1992: Erika Slezak, OLTL
    1993: Linda Dano, AW
    1994: Hillary B. Smith, OLTL
1995: TIE— Erika Slezak, OLTL and Leslie Charleson, GH
    1996: Erika Slezak, OLTL
    1997: Genie Francis, GH
    1998: Jacklyn Zeman, GH
    1999: Susan Lucci, AMC
    2000: Finola Hughes, AMC
    2001: Julia Barr, AMC
    2002: Colleen Zenk, ATWT
    2003: Nancy Lee Grahn, GH

    2013: Susan Flannery, B&B
    2014: Eileen Davidson, DOOL
    2015: Maura West ,GH

My major changes include Marcy Walker winning three consecutive Emmy’s and several others changes, but what remains the same is that Susan Lucci would wait until 1999 to win.   Genie Francis would win in 1997, and Davidson would also wait until 2014 to win.     Erika Slezak would maintain her six Emmy’s, however in 1995 she would tie with Leslie Charleson for GH.

Obviously, since I wasn’t born in the 70’s, I just had to guess and use whatever knowledge of that time period I have. I was more aware of soaps in the 1980’s, but not enough to recall specifics about storylines and airdates, so I just guessed.   I am more confidant in the 1990’s and beyond, and did my best using my memory and my impressions of the time period.   There were certain people who it seemed odd weren’t Emmy winners (McKinsey, Warrick) and others who having Emmy’s seemed odd (Wright).      In some cases it was a tough call and I just went with my gut.
