Here is a fun diversion for all of us:
Here is a fun diversion for all of us:
With only four soaps left on the air there is plenty of
talented daytime superstars out of work, so your task is to cast a daytime
legend (provided they are still living) on one of the four remaining
soaps. Just tell us who the legend is
and what soap you’d want them on, you can provide as much or as little detail
as you want about what kind of character you’d want them to play! have fun!
and you can use your own interpretation as to what constitutes
a legend!January 22, 2016 at 3:57 am #430089
Here are my picks:
This soap really needs a new character to come in and really shake up the canvas. I’m thinking in a similar manner to how Carly tossed the entire canvas on its head when she showed up all those years ago. I can think of nobody better suited for this job than Susan Lucci. Cast La Lucci as a villainous mob wife who perhaps turns out to be Sonny’s long presumed dead mother? How juicy would that be? Especially if Mama Corinthos hates Carly for some reason?
I also think GH would be a fantastic place for Victoria Rowell to show up. She could play virtually anybody. But I’m thinking a hard-nosed doctor assigned with replacing Doctor Obrecth as Chief of Staff at GH? Perhaps she butts heads with Monica and becomes enemies with Elizabeth? maybe she is a moral person but finds herself attracted to Sonny?
“Days of Our Lives:”
This show is doing pretty well and doesn’t need a big change creatively; but it couldn’t hurt to introduce another family to interact with the current cast. I’m thinking they could cast Kim Zimmer and Jerry Ver Dorn as grandparents raising a couple teenagers (a boy and a girl) who get involved with the current teen scene somehow?
“Bold & Beautiful:”
I’ve always said that Linda Dano belongs on B&B! After AW left the air I thought that CBS should have bought the rights to the Felicia character and moved her to B&B. But since that isn’t possible, they just need to cast her as a new character who buys Forrester Creations or one of the rival fashion houses and really gives the Forresters a run for their money! Pair her romantically with somebody like Bill Spencer in a wildly inappropriate love affair and you have a steamy pairing! Perhaps her character could be engaged in a torrid affair with Bill before finding true love with Eric?
“Young & Restless:”
This shows cast is pretty full and they have a fairly good grasp on casting; but I’ve always felt it was a waste of oppurtunity not to cast Sarah Brown as Victoria Newman. Amelia Hienel is a fairly decent actress, but she’s never truly been Victoria too me. I feel like Sarah Brown would be the perfect choice!
I also think that Y&R would be wise to consider hiring OLTL actress Susan Haskell for a new role. I’m thinking perhaps a scientist at Jabot or whatever cosmetics company is in favor right now… Perhaps she crosses the wrong person? I could see her as an enemy for Ashley perhaps?January 22, 2016 at 6:55 am #430090
I like the idea of Victoria Rowell being added to GH either as a doctor or another WSB agent and mainly (since the ages work out perfectly) as Jordan Ashford’s mother and TJ’s grandmother! That’d create a multigenerational family on the show which we need more of, and seeing her and Antoine lock horns (say she and her mom don’t have the best or closest relationship a la Jordan and TJ) would be cool!January 22, 2016 at 4:17 pm #430091
YES to the idea of Victoria
Rowell as Jordan’s mother on GH! That would be an awesome casting coup,
and would continue the GH/Y&R casting rivalry they’ve got going.
this topic, Boidiva!
a LEGEND exactly, but I did already try to cast John J. York as Bo Brady on
DAYS. And try to turn Rebecca Budig’s Hayden Barnes into Greenlee
Smythe on GH.
More seriously, though, I
don’t think DAYS really needs another older character coming in. I love that there are so many veterans on the
show now, but they’re more hurting in the department of younger talent. So I’d beg, borrow and steal to get Chandler
Massey back as Will. Say he’s been
kidnapped and held in a dungeon since shortly after his wedding to Sonny, and
the other Will as an imposter, which is why Will was being such a tool and
cheating on Sonny. Though I would also
have enjoyed seeing the show stunt cast one of the former Rachel Davises as
John’s mother, either Victoria Wyndham or Robin Strasser.
If GH were bringing in a
legend, I would hope the person would fill one of the two categories they need
most: doctor or Quartermaine (both exist but neither in a prominent capacity). I like the idea of Susan Lucci coming in,
maybe as a very experienced surgeon who is brought in to perform a very
sensitive, high-risk procedure on an existing character, maybe Paul Hornsby or
Valerie Spencer, that ends up not working and the character dies, inciting a
big rivalry with someone (Ava or Carly perhaps).
I’m less in tune with the
CBS soaps and what would work for them, but I would like to see Y&R come up
with a love interest for Neil that is long-term sustainable. I would try Anne Heche as a divorced
small-town lawyer who comes to Genoa City for a case, and she’d be sort of the
anti-Newman/Abbott because she’s not really trying to be some big successful
attorney or wealthy or anything, just believing in the cases she takes and
doing good work for her clients.
And because it seems like a waste not to bring her into this
conversation, why not throw Sarah Michelle Gellar onto B&B as the creative
director of a competing fashion house with an axe to grind against Forrester
Creations, probably because of something Ridge did because Ridge is an ass.January 22, 2016 at 5:35 pm #430092
I love this thread and especially LOVE the idea of bringing Linda Dano to B&B. Wow, that would be awesome! I can totally see her in a love triangle with Bill and Eric, butting heads with Pam and Brooke and Donna. Both men need some new women in their lives. But most importantly, B&B needs a new jolt of energy to get away from the boring merry-go-rounds of Wyatt-Liam-Steffy-Ivy, and Brooke-Bill-Katie.January 22, 2016 at 9:39 pm #430093
I’m loving this thread too!
But Boidiva, a moral woman who finds herself attracted to Sonny? Haven’t enough characters been ruined by attempting to tell that story?
And I love Sarah Brown, but she is not Victoria Newman. Brown insists on playing all of her characters as dark, twisted, and tortured. Victoria is none of those things. Heather Tom as Victoria is one of the best matches between actress and character on soaps ever IMO, and Amelia Heinle has proven herself as a very close runner up. Sorry, but the (re)casting of that character gets me very defensive.
EmmyLoser, I love the idea of SMG on B&B, and Brad Bell is probably the only soap exec who could get SMG back to Daytime. But with that said, all of Brad’s female characters are wimps and I can’t see that being attractive to her. However, she does have the look and style to be a very convincing Bridget.
Speaking of Bridget, if Days won’t bring back Christie Clark, which is a huge mistake, she would be an amazing Bridget.
And speaking of Days, I’m also going to reintroduce the idea of Lesli Kay as DOOL’s Billie Reed.
I also feel like Elizabeth Hubbard needs to be back on Daytime. I just can’t think of where she’d fit… yet.January 24, 2016 at 3:18 pm #430094
I hadn’t considered SMG as Bridget, but that works really well I think both in terms of a character match and getting SMG a role that could be substantial and more likely to matter beyond a six-month arc. It would also be a huge surprise if some new company was coming after Forrester and then everoyne there discovered it was headed by doctor/fashion designer Bridget.
And I agree, Christie Clark would also be a fantastic Bridget.
I’d be happy to see Billie back on DAYS as Lesli Kay, or as Lisa Rinna or Krista Allen for that matter.January 24, 2016 at 4:50 pm #430095
Two other names that come to mind who I feel like would be great re-additions to Daytime soaps are Noelle Beck and Susan Haskell.
Haskell would be great as a new doctor on GH; hell I would be happy to see Marty Saybrooke herself show up in Port Charles if that was a possibility. And not that B&B needs more blondes, but Haskell also looks like she could play Kristen Forrester (if she and Thorsten Kaye were open to playing siblings). Or she could play a resurrected Diane Jenkins on Y&R!
Beck seems to me like she’d also fit in at Y&R, perhaps as a powerful corporate type or as Dr Casey Reed. She could also give new life to B&B’s Taylor, though Hunter Tylo has so much international appeal that I doubt they would recast.

I think Victoria Rowell could bring a lot to any of the
remaining shows. I was actually thinking
about her joining Bold and the Beautiful a couple of weeks ago. She could be really great as Sasha’s mother,
the woman that Julius had an affair with.
She would jump right in with an instant storyline, and it would be fun
to see her sparring with Anna Maria Horsford.
I was also thinking that maybe down the line she could go after
Bill. Victoria Rowell vs. Heather Tom
would be FIRE!
Someone else that came to my mind was Grant Aleksander. I just remember how much life he injected
into Guiding Light when he came back towards the end, and I think he could be a
great addition to any of the shows. My
first thought was to pair him with Eileen Davidson on Y&R. For some reason, I think they would have really
good chemistry and I think he would be a good fit on that show, maybe as a new
businessman in town. Eileen needs a good
love interest, as her and Michael E. Knight don’t have any chemistry IMO. He could also be good on GH to round out the
Julian/Alexis/Olivia story. He could be
a new doctor in town or maybe even a Ned recast if they don’t get Wally
One last name that I thought of was Florencia Lozano. I definitely miss her presence in
daytime. I think she would make a great
Isabella recast on Young and the Restless.
That character could shake up the canvas and could especially give Paul
and Cricket a good story. There is a lot
you could do with that character, as she hasn’t been seen in over 10 years, and
has history with vets Paul/Cricket/Michael/Lauren, who are all in need of

I had been thinking of recasting a Diane Jenkins, possibly with Martha Byrne, so it’s funny that you mentioned Noelle Beck, albeit for a different role, right in the same post. And I love the idea of Rowell as Sasha’s mother on B&B. B&B is so strange in that so many of the big names who come in flame out in terms of screentime very quickly, but the show also have the ability to turn almost any random person who comes in into an important piece of the show’s canvas really quickly. Mixing Rowell in with Vivienne and Julian could bring back some of the magic reminiscent of old school Y&R.January 24, 2016 at 10:41 pm #430098
The thought of Victoria Rowell back on Daytime is so exciting, but I hate that it’s that exciting because it’s so unrealistic given all that has happened since her Y&R exit.
To perpetuate the Diane Jenkins topic, I had never thought of Martha Byrne for that role, but as soon as you mentioned Martha, I thought Noelle Beck might make a good Diane too haha. Or even Robin Christopher. Or just have Susan Walters reprise the role. Actually Susan Walters has a versatile enough look and style to be a great addition on any of the other three shows as well.
Also, Renee Elise Goldsberry would be great as a new doctor on GH or yet another newbie on Days.
GHFan, I agree with your thoughts on Grant Aleksander, and also think Michael Park could be an alternate suggestion to fill those spaces.January 25, 2016 at 7:41 am #430099
As an alternative to actually recasting Bo, DAYS could have done something similar to what GH did in trying to replace Brenda when Vanessa Marcil left years ago and brought in someone who is a similar enough type and look that he could fill that niche for the audience and some of the characters. Aside from John J. York, Michael Park would have been a great choice for that.
I guess actually having Susan Walters reprise the role of Diane would be my favorite choice, because as great as the others are (I think in particular Susan Haskell or Robin Christopher could really absolutely nail it), I just absolutely loved her in that role. But I agree Walters could make a great addition to any soap.
I’ve been thinking lately that DAYS really should bring in, or should have brought in, another DiMera, someone who can maintain the family and carry on a legacy that is antagonistic with the Bradys and Hortons (if Hope’s killing Stefano isn’t proven in any legal way, that’s plenty of fuel for the fire) without being the raving lunatic that Andre is. And since Peter seems to be never coming back, I’d love it if that cast one of the people in this thread as a daughter or perhaps a niece no one ever knew about to come in and kick ass. Susan Walters, Robin Christopher, Noelle Beck or Renee Elise Goldsberry would all be great candidates for that. Or FloLo, actually.January 26, 2016 at 10:21 am #430100
Kimberline Brown needs to work again, she is just too good not to be on daytime. I’m thinking that she would work wonders on GH. She would fit in perfect in the Jerome family story. Perhaps even a recast as a back from the dead Olivia? How perfect would that be?
Or even more exciting, a new Cassadine family member? Perhaps she is Helena’s long lost daughter from an affair Helena had on Mikkos? How perfect would it be if Helena who swore alleganice to Mikkos all those years was really cheating on him? Perhaps she comes to PC swearing revenge on Laura and PC for her mothers many deaths? Or maybe she is Alexis’s never before mentioned twin sister who unlike Alexis is evil as crap? Maybe in a sick story she even pretends to be in love with Nikolas only to kill him and try taking the Cassadine money? IDK, only she could pull of a story that twisted.
Moving onto DOOL; they have so many talented vets that they are sort of cast heavy in that area, but they need some younger blood. I do think Kristen Alderson could do wonders there as a completely new character who isn’t Starr or whoever the f she was playing on GH. I also think that where DOOL is lacking is characters in their 30’s, everybody on that show seems to be over 40 or under 30; I’d like to see somebody like Bree Williamson cast on this show. I think she would be nearly perfect on DOOL. Not sure who she would play but there are many options. They could also do some stunt casting and cast John Brotherton or Forbes March (her OLTL co-stars) as her love interest.
Lastly, I also think it is like overdue for Vanessa Marcil to return to daytime, except not on GH and not as Brenda. Y&R seems like a natural choice for her, unless she is worried about burning bridges at GH. I could see her as one of Victor Newman’s newest love interests who immediately becomes enemies with Nikki. Perhaps she is introduced as a friend of Victoria’s who is having an affair with Victor, or plotting to steal his company away from him? IDK… just spitballing here.January 27, 2016 at 8:27 am #430102
Interesting suggestions, Boidiva! I love the idea of Vanessa Marcil back on daytime, though I think currently having her as Brenda on GH would probably do more than she could do as a different character on any other soap. That Y&R suggestion sounds similar to the Sabrina/Victor thing, though I can’t see any character played by Marcil being as boring as Sabrina was.
You’re totally right about DAYS needing young-ish adult characters. Bree Williamson and John Brotherton could be a great brother/sister duo, maybe as younger, saner DiMeras (I know I keep doing back to that idea, because I like it so much!), though the show could also easily cast someone like Brotherton as one of Justin and Adrienne’s other sons.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing Kimberlin Brown as a crazy Cassadine, depending on how it’s done. One of the things GH is really lacking is a strong family. I generally think of a soap family as being established, important, and having at least three generations that actually feel like a family. Technically GH has quite a few of these (the Quartermaines kind of fit with Monica, Jason and his kids but they feel very anemic right now; Sonny has a bunch of kids and a grandson, but they feel pretty disjointed; Nikolas and Spencer are the only Cassadine who feel like Cassadines, despite Alexis and her brood technically being Cassadines as well), but none of them feel like a family, so I’d like to see them work toward re-establishing one of these or developing one of the current saplings into a full on family free. If Kimberlin Brown could either reconnect Alexis with her Cassadine heritage or grow the family in a different way, it could be a good thing.January 27, 2016 at 8:28 am #430101
Great call on Kimberlin Brown and Bree Williamson! KB is versatile enough to play almost anything, and I agree that BW’s style is perfect for Days. My preference is still Christie Clark’s Carrie to fill the opening of that particular age group, but BW would be great as a new character too.
I was also thinking of Vanessa Marcil for Y&R, though I agree that it’s unlikely given her allegiance to GH (or actually directly to Maurice Benard) and her record of finding work outside of Daytime whenever she wants it. However she is one of the very few actresses that I would be willing to consider as a recast Victoria. As a new character, I think she looks too young to play in Victor/Nikki’s demographic; I could see her opposite Josh Morrow, Justin Hartley, or Jason Thompson. But with our luck Pratt and JFP will try to pair her with Steve Burton whereas I’d rather just be rid of Dylan. As an aside, I think GH could actually make Jason work again if they brought back SBu. Half the issue there is that BM does not have chemistry with any of the women there.
PS, I realize that I just advocated for Marcil as a Victoria recast or a new character to be paired with one of Victoria’s three brothers haha. Soaps are a mess.
