Frank Valentini tweeted the news early today.

I have mixed feelings about this casting move.  I should say that I’m genuinely happy for all the Genie/Laura fans.  But on the other hand, I don’t think the ‘heart’ that is lacking from GH is character/actor based but rather in the writing.  GF’s presence isn’t going to change that IMO.  Secondly, I don’t think GF holds as much fan support to boost the ratings as she may have in the past.  And thirdly, her days on Y&R as Genevieve Atkinson scarred me for life.

I too am mostly ambivilent about this.   I’ve long wanted Genie to return on a full time basis, but the truth is that I simply do not trust this writing team to make this work in any fashion.   I feel like the only way this is going to play out is that Genie returns for a short period of time to usher out Geary, if indeed he does retire.     I would certianly love to see Genie return as a full-fledged series regular, but only IF Laura has a real storyline with a real point of view that isn’t in service to another character.

I also find it very telling that we’ve got NO details about her return such as length of stay, airdate or what her potential storyline will be.  We saw what happened last time she returned, it was hyped to no end and amounted to a whole lot of nothing in the end.

I am really happy about this return. I thought for sure this was going to be the big announcement at the Daytime Emmys. I will be happiest if this indeed is to usher out Tony Geary – good riddance! (I am so sick of him at this point). Sure, I would love for her to be a full-time regular with or without Luke, but I’m not holding my breath – they have treated her horribly over the years, for whatever behind the scenes reasons, and perhaps there are things we don’t know about it. I wonder where this leaves Jane Elliot in terms of storyline? I have enjoyed Luke & Tracy but I’ve always felt that Luke belongs with Laura. Tracy deserves better! (; Once we get more details it will be a little clearer but I am always glad to see Laura and her portrayer. (btw, her first line should be: “I’m back from my Doctor’s appointment”, LOL!)

I’m going to be positive and say it’s good news, though you guys make good points.  I don’t see that having Laura in town will make that much of a difference, and considering they’re not even saying that she has a contract (like not even a six-week or 12-week contract) means the return will be quite short.  But I think the fans will be happy to see her.  It does seem likely she’ll help usher Luke out in some fashion.  I don’t know about permanently, but isn’t Anthony Geary coming due for his annual six-month break?  If Luke is gone, and Ned is gone, I’m not sure what Tracy will do.  Maybe focus on ELQ, work on trying to get back all those shares she gave to Jerry Jacks?
