The Casting Society of America has announced the nominees for outstanding achievement in casting.  Congratulations to the daytime nominees:

    Daytime Drama Series
“Days of Our Lives,” Marnie Saitta
    “General Hospital,” Mark Teschner
“The Young and the Restless,” Judy Blye Wilson

The winners will be announced November 18.  There’s a full post about this over in the Oscars, Golden Globes, etc. thread, but I wanted to mention the daytime noms here.

Congratulations to all the very worthy nominees! I feel like GH really deserves to take this home for all the big casting coups they landed, especially during the past couple months (most notably, Maura West and William deVry) in addition to making the return of so many veterans to the show possible. Though important to consider is how effective all these castings were/have been. West and deVry are simply perfect in their roles – a big plus working in GH‘s favor to win – but Roger Howarth stands out like a sore eye as being completely miscast in the role of Franco. Also, Jack Wagner is a glaring example of a fan-favorite return very poorly executed by the show, with his character Frisco’s imminent exit a product of very lackluster writing that didn’t do the character justice. So overall, perhaps, these big minuses may outweigh some of the better casting decisions.

I can see DAYS also taking the award; after all, they scored big w/bringing Eileen Davidson back on board! All the additions to the younger scene (Casey Moss, Jen Lilley) have also proven to be very wise decisions made, including the re-hiring of Blake Berris. As for Y&R, I can really only see their casting of Hunter King and Max Ehrich from the younger set as working to their advantage; some of the other younger actors (most prominently, Hartley Sawyer as Kyle) and older newcomers, like Steve Burton, are either completely miscast or not very effective in their roles.

What is not clear to me is, does this award honor casting strictly by the calendar year (ie., only for 2012, like at the Daytime Emmys back in June)? I can see how that would make a considerable difference if 2013 up until this point in the year wouldn’t be allowed for consideration.
