November 18th, 2016 RATINGS: DAYS and B&B Gain In Total Viewers And Key Demos!
Steve’s proposal to Kayla, the arrival of Abigail (Marci Miller’s debut), and Brady making quite a disturbing discovery about Theresa were just some of the plotpoints that gave Days of our Lives a nice boost in total viewers and key demos for the ratings period of November 7th through the 11th.
As well, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful scored solid gains in total viewers across all key demos. B&B added the most viewers of the week of any soap at + 125,000 and they tied with DAYS for the most viewers added in the 18-34 womens demo. However, DAYS added the most viewers for women 18-49 and 25-54 of any soap.
The Young and the Restless took the biggest hit in total viewers losing -94,000 for their average weekly total viewer tally at 4.5 million. The number one soap also lost the most viewers in the 25-54 women demo.
General Hospital also saw some minor losses. The lone ABC daytime drama series was down 16,000 total viewers from the previous week. In the key demos, GH stayed mostly on par with last week at this time either adding, or subtracting 1,000 viewers in the category.

I haven’t been enjoying Days, GH and Y&R much this past week. Even B&B was wobbly for me. Perhaps a lull before some better storylines kick in?
I am really sick of how they protect the character of Sonny on GH. It’s so predictable. He’s off the hook. Attempted crimes are still crimes! (esp. attempted murder!) Not on soaps, of course! and I just can’t stand the very sight of him.
I have been finding it difficult to get through full episodes of Y&R ): It puts me to sleep with poor storylines. I just don’t care these days.
I go through periodic down times with soaps and this is one of them.
One interesting aspect of the ratings is the comparison of Y&R and B&B. There used to be a wide margin between the two shows. While Y&R still has a considerable edge, the gap in ratings is much less than in previous years.
The more telling numbers are the year to year losses. Y&R is down over 200k viewers in women 18-49, B&B 110k, Days 166k and GH 70k. I fear we are circling the drain here. I can’t see how this goes on another few years at this rate.
The bar is getting lower and lower where ratings are concerned. Once upon a time it would have been hard to imagine soaps continuing to air with the ratings that DAYS, GH and even B&B have been routinely seeing lately. Now it’s par for the course. But this is true in primetime as well. Numbers that used to be considered failing are no longer seen that way.
At least Y&R and DAYS have some tricks up their sleeves, with Y&R bringing in Sally Sussman and DAYS currently in its annual makeover phase and gearing up for some exciting returns.
