Thought I’d form a thread solely for the Big Three Races of:

    Outstanding Drama Series
    Outstanding Writing Team
    Outstanding Directing Team

All that I know, as of now, is that Bold and the Beautiful (which submits 4 total half hour episodes for Drama Series; 2 sets of 2 back to back eps) submitted the Paris, France location episodes and the Mediterranean episodes for Outstanding Drama Series.

If anyone gets word on what GH, Days, Y&R submitted in the Big Three categories above, feel free to comment here!

B&B submitted Hope’s goodbye scenes for the writing category (curiously, the interview with Bradley Bell only mentions Series and Writing, but not Directing)… (btw, I didn’t think Abu Dhabi was on the Mediterranean? Isn’t in on the Persian Gulf? Geography lesson please!)

Haha, I couldnt remember the exact name of the place, so I thought it was in the Med. area??

I’m really anxious to see especially what GH and Days submitted. Anxious, because I feel we could start analyzing and find a clear winner once we know the Series submissions…

Okay, so it looks like GH submitted the first day of the Nurses Ball, (which wasnt the performances; mostly the Red Carpet) and had Gabriel’s Death/Car Crash as the side story. They also submitted Hallowedding confrontation episode.

Am I correct, MattArmando and GHFan, that you are referring to submissions for Best Drama Series?

Days submitted two really great Emmy-worthy episodes! (: Which of the E.J.’s death episodes is it specifically? There were several outstanding ones – not sure his actual death in the park episode was all that spectacular? (My memory is hazy as to what else happened on that episode) I preferred the episode where Sami tells the kids about his death and also the one where she is in the morgue with E.J….

I have mixed feelings about the first episode GH has submitted – the Red Carpet was silly, but I am assuming this is the episode where Patrick, Sabrina and Emma are in the car crash? I honestly don’t see that as a particularly strong submission – well, I’ll just say they had better episodes to submit; I’m assuming the second episode was when Michael learns from Franco that Sonny killed A.J.? That was a superb episode.

    I did see the Paris episodes of B&B – while I enjoyed Quinn dumping Ivy in the river, overall I thought the epsiode was solid but not spectacular – the Abu Dhabi episodes had technical achievements but I don’t think of it as great scintillating daytime drama…the helicopter was the star, like in Miss Saigon! (;

btw, where did you find the information???

Yes, it’s the first day of Nurses Ball, so no performances (thank God); so it’s mostly Patrick and Sabrina’s baby’s death; which I could honestly see them winning with… (The JFP format of dead babies demands so!)

The confrontation episode of Hallowedding was well-scripted and directed… but I could think of many other possible submissions. (AJ’s funeral/crypt sex)

Jamey Giddens revealed both GH and Days submissions on the new DaytimeConfidential podcast… He thinks GH could/should take this one, with both eps exhibiting “good, classic soap opera”.

This is going to be extremely difficult to predict…

B&B could easily “wow” the Panel with the on-location shoots and their rather grandious production values, but the story and feel just isnt there.

GH could easily prevail with the most classic soap-y, and IMO, most ranging submissions. (lightheartedness of the Red Carpet show, to the heart of the death of Gabriel, to the soapiness of the Franco’s confrontation)

DAYS could easily win with the more timely and bold submissions. (WilSon’s gay wedding, EJ’s shocking demise)

Y&R could also two-peat with the most dramatic toned submissions. (Adam/Billy confrontation) Although, will voters really reward the same dead baby storyline 2 years in a row?

My stance, for now (based on classic Emmy’s logic), for Outstanding Drama Series:
    Will Win: General Hospital
Should Win: Days of our Lives

I have Days as my ‘should’, as I believe GH could have easily ditched Gabriel’s death for the more nuanced, subtle, quality episodes of AJ’s funeral/crypt sex, where Maura and Maurice and Bryan Craig completely knocked it out. Smart writing, slick directing, dark feel; loved those episodes and think they would have made a strong submission.

i’m still uncler and unsure – can someone help me out?

GH’s first episode: is it the one that starts out with the Red Carpet arrivals and later on while Patrick, Sabrina and Emma are on their way to the event their car is run off the road, which eventually causes Gabriel’s death? Or is it Gabriel’s actual death in the incubator? If it’s the second of these, it has a better chance – because the Hallowedding/induced labor episode was their very best episode of 2014 – an Emmy-caliber one, for sure, and paired with Gabriel’s death scenes at the hospital, GH and Days would be too close to call for the Emmy.

Y&R surely gets two episodes: the Adam/Billy confrontation is one of them? I found Miller’s Emmy reel way too dark and hard to see facial expressions – what is Y&R’s other episode? I really do think it’s between Days and GH this year…

For Days, what I love about Will & Sonny’s wedding is the way the whole entire cast (pretty much everyone) is featured! One of the things that bugged me about Y&R winning last year was the lack of castmembers in their two episodes – (also I found the second episode was repetitious and boring, but I digress) – I would need a full description of WHICH E.J.’s death episode – I honestly don’t remember anything else from the actual episode where E.J. was killed in the park, but I remember vividly the aftermath episodes, and I think Days will have a really great chance at winning if it’s one of those episodes, paired with the wedding, which not only included Peggy McCay’s Emmy reel, but it was also historic and great soap!

If the panelists are stupid enough to choose B&B for it’s remotes, there ain’t no justice!

To my understanding, GH submitted the first day of Nurses Ball, which would have aired May 8, 2014, and also featured the car crash with the Drake’s and Sabrina and her unborn child, Gabriel. However, I could be wrong, and you could be right about the incubator ep where Gabriel did really die.

And i completely forgot that Hallowedding also featured the induced labor! Maura and Michelle KILLED those scenes. Now I’m very pleased with this submission! Great soap right there.

Days and GH have very similar, classic soap-y submissions and it’ll be fun to see who comes out on top. I could see Days ultimately taking Series and GH taking Writing Team, to complement their recent WGA win.

As for Directing Team, I’m going with B&B; which I’m almost positive they submitted the Europe eps for…. Y&R‘s outdoors set come off very unrealistic and cheap to me, and it’s also too dark. I’d like to know what GH and Days submitted here as welll…

Interesting!  I’m glad we finally have submissions.

DAYS was smart to submit the WilSon wedding, which features good acting, a huge ensemble, lovely writing, and an issue that I think a lot of voters will be behind.  I’m less enthusiastic about EJ’s death, and I would guess it’s the episode where Sami finds him in the park?  I don’t remember what else was happening that episode.  I still think Nick’s murder would have made such a fantastic submission, but maybe after Blake Berris wasn’t nominated, DAYS decided to veer toward the storylines the voters seemed to embrace more?

The Hallowedding/Induced Labor episode on GH was good, very good, and I think would be very competitive against the WilSon wedding.  I remember a lot of the actual wedding scenes feeling dragged out.  I’d have to rewatch all of these to really get a fair sense of it.  I didn’t see the second episode referenced, I don’t think.  I did watch the episode where Gabriel died, though, and I don’t remember seeing anything related to the Nurses Ball in that.  I didn’t even realized those things had happened at the same time.  GH seems to know which stories to submit and which to avoid this year, which is good.

I haven’t seen any of the B&B/Y&R episodes except what was in other reels.  Does anyone know if these will be made available online?

Are there any exact dates available for any of these episodes? I’m curious as to exactly which of the E.J. death episodes they submitted, so I can find out what else happened during the particular episode.

Did Y&R submit TWO Delia’s death episodes from January? I know it worked for them last year, which I disagreed with, but I guess they feel if it worked once, why not again?

Gabriel’s death happened a bit after the Nurse’s Ball if I recall correctly, so I’m assuming it’s the Red Carpet arrivals/car crash episode, which eventually led to Sabrina going into premature labor and Gabriel’s death as a result of her injuries…

I seem to recall that last year they were made available online but I can’t remember where…

I want to rewatch all the episodes to see if the episodes hold up during a second viewing.

My problem with GH winning for Writing is that it would encourage them into thinking they are doing a great job when in fact the show is WILDLY UNEVEN – with, yes, some great episodes with terrific writing, but also some really bad writing choices. The same with Series. I even find the Directing to be mixed in this way, but all four of the shows are expertly directed – I’m rooting for Days because it is the only one of these four shows that hasn’t won in this category lately and it is the most consistent of the four in tone and impact.

A good thought to consider; having both Maura West and Michelle Stafford as key players in one of GH’s Series submissions could result in GH getting a lot of #2 votes from CBS bias voters…

They’ve been posting acting reels online the last 3 years now but I don’t think they’ve ever posted series, writing and directing reels.

I’m trying to make sense of Jamey Giddens’ explanation of the GH series reels. I’ve listened to the podcast but his description can’t be right. He says they submitted one Nurses’ Ball ep and one Hallowedding ep. But he specifically says it was the 1st Nurses’ Ball ep and it featured red carpet arrivals and Patrick/Sabrina scenes. That’s impossible. The 1st Nurses’ Ball ep featured the red carpet arrivals and aired May 8 but would make for a lousy Drama Series submission. The only Nurses’ Ball ep that featured Patrick and Sabrina at all was the last one and it aired May 13. I’m assuming that’s the one they submittted. It was one of their winning WGA reels, featured great Lucy/Kevin scenes, great Patrick/Sabrina/Gabriel scenes and a few musical numbers.  He didn’t describe the Hallowedding ep so I have no clue which one of those they submitted.

I definitely watched the Drama Series for last year but I don’t remember if they were put up on this site or one of the other ones. I remembered being quite bored by the second Y&R episode and feeling that half of Days second episode was superb and half was average, costing Days the Emmy it so richly deserved for 2013. OLTL’s submission was very suspenseful (the first episode) and both episodes utilized most of its cast really well. B&B’s two episodes were laughable and contained some really bad writing imo. So I’m hoping we get to see them again this year (there’s not much time left).

I think we only got full descriptions of the writing and directing submissions but it helped in predicting (I predicted OLTL for Directing and Days for Writing; the former won and the latter lost to Y&R).

We really need exact dates since Jamey Giddens wasn’t specific enough about which episodes were actually submitted…
