All four network shows are nominated. Here are my preferences.

    1. DAYS OF OUR LIVES. This is the most consistent of the four shows. The show had the best storylines, acting ensemble, excellent technical aspects, direction, and the best use of veterans. If I had to choose two episodes I hope they submitted: Will and Sonny’s wedding, definitely; and then for the second episode it’s a real toss-up: the Friday or Monday episode pertaining to Nick’s murder; the epsiode where Sami tells the kids about E.J.’s death; the Kristen/Susan episode was a total hoot!; E.J./Sami in the morgue…

    2. GENERAL HOSPITAL. The show is all over the place and inconsistent. The writing is great and terrible. Direction and technical aspects are always great. It has a fantastic acting ensemble. I would choose the Hallowedding/induced labor episode (my memory is these two events were on the same episode?) as one of the two submissions. I remember really enjoying many of the November sweeps episodes but I can’t remember them with enough clarity, interesting.

    3. THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. 3 excellent months (January, November, and December) and 9 mediocre ones (February-October). I’m guessing the Billy-Adam confrontation in January, perhaps Victoria giving birth, perhaps Gina Tognoni’s submission where Phyllis tears into Jack about Kelly. What other episodes were strong enough?

    4. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. I have a hard time getting through complete episodes. I miss Stephanie and I only enjoy a few of the characters: Wyatt, Quinn and Steffy are my favorites. A miscast Ridge, weird storylines (no consequences for Bill for attempting to murder Ridge? Huh? Katie takes him back and eventually marries him? Ridge falls for Katie and then Caroline? Stupid storytelling!). The only episode submissions I can think of would be the two episodes where Katie tells Brooke about her love for Ridge (and his love for her), and the episodes that Jacob Young and Linsey Godfrey submitted, in which Rick finds out about Caroline and Ridge. (I suppose they could go with the helicopter episode – I thought it was over the top and stupid).

    My order of preference:

    1. Days of Our Lives

    2. General Hospital

    3. The Young & the Restless

    4. The Bold & the Beautiful

Freeman, we are so similar in our responses to daytime dramas! You said it quite well above, and I concur with your analysis.

I would rank DAYS #4 overall based on the year as a whole…but depending on what they submitted (they did have some amazing stand alone episodes), they could easily be #1.

Overall though, 2014 is not regarded as a good year for DAYS….but then again neither was 2011 or 2012, and they took home the Emmy in those years for Writing Team and Drama Series, so who knows.

The tape submission is the clincher in this category…DAYS should have won last year, they clearly were #1 in 2013 amongs all the soaps for overall quality and Y&R was easily the worst…yet Y&R walked away with the Emmy because they submitted their absolute best episode of the year, which was an amazing submission.
