According to Deadline.com The award show will be aired on HLN, and the nominations won’t come out until Wed, May the 9th.
Well atleast the show will be on TV, i hpope they do a good job with it..
The top priority is to free this from this scourge of the Las Vegas tourism board. The last two years have been ghastly.
My concern is that there’s more concern with keeping the Daytime Emmys on TV than there is with making the Daytime Emmys good. The awards need not be televised to be prestigious, but those Vegas shows are a quick way to finally destroy what prestige they have left.
They key to putting on a good show is to stop worrying so much about “entertainment value,” which is to say, they should assume that people who watch the Daytime Emmys are interested in daytime dramas and talk shows and have no interest in fluff or filler that has nothing to do with the medium.
Please, HLN, trust the Daytime Emmys to be the Daytime Emmys, and don’t make the mistake of thinking the audience needs to be distracted from daytime television.
I am going to try to enjoy these awards while they last. IMO, the only reason after this year to keep the Daytime Emmy’s around is to award talk shows. With only 4(?) soaps still being on the air by next years Emmy’s, I can definitely see the Daytime and Primetime Emmy’s being merged together, with the Talk Shows/Hosts and Game Shows/Hosts getting their own categories, and the soaps competing in the drama categories. I hate to see it happen, but its most likely what will happen.
While I think it is pretty unnecessary to hold off on announcing the nominations until they finalize this deal, I am shocked and pleased that these are going to be televised. There are two ways that I would like NATAS to do this. One is to take the simulcast approach. Do it as if these were going to be on the web, and broadcast it in that format on both AOL and HLN. Doing it that way would prevent the “vulgar Vegas nightmare” we have seen the last two yrs. Second if they must make it an “awards show” type thing, model it after the Golden Globes since they already have the setup to do it in that fashion anyways. And if they want to get one of their own, after seeing her surprisingly funny turn on “Raising Hope” I would not be against seeing Nancy Grace hosting it. And for good measure if they want to give this the full on awards show treatment, get those yahoos who host that entertainment news show to host a red carpet show. Sure I will do a lot of smdh like w/the CW one (who could forget that gem when they captured ON CAMERA Lara Spencer asking Gina Tognoni her name -_-), but hey it’s the thought that counts.
All in all, being out of the city of sin and back in LA (and at the Beverly Hilton of all places!) and on an actual news network, I am expecting this to be at least watchable and somewhat classy. I am not expecting much, but given the big to do NATAS is doing trying make it available for viewing, the actual award show should be worth all of the big to do. So please don’t drop the ball on this NATAS and HLN!
While it annoys me that they postponed the nominations to finalize this deal — perhaps an indication that the priorities are still not in order? — I’m glad they’ll be on TV, and I’m glad they’ll be on a smaller network that hopefully won’t feel like they need to jam a bunch of stuff into the show as supposed ratings boosters.
