new lifetime achievement award is in the creative arts field. “It’s to
honor a behind-the-scenes person who’s had a lifetime of contributing to
a show or several shows, not just a front-of-the-camera person.”
lifetime honorees will be named in March, but the new award Michaels is
most excited about is the outstanding musical performance in a talk
show/morning program. “If you think about the kinds of guests that are
on ‘The Today Show,’ ‘Good Morning America’ and all of the talk shows,
the entries in that category are like a who’s who of the recording
industry, so no matter who gets nominated, that category’s going to be
on fire,” he says. There will be a minimum of five nominees, but the
number could go up.
Daytime Emmys have made additional changes to accommodate digitally
streamed programs. “The world of Web soaps is ever increasing and
exploding,” Michaels says. “Last year we noticed the talent category was
completely out of control. It was just performer in a digital drama, so
we split it into actor in a digital drama and actress in a digital

Hey don’t worry about it 🙂 thanks for bringing this newfound information to our attention!
I love the idea of honouring the behind the scenes crew with a lifetime achievement award; so many people have given so much to daytime television, it is nice to know that the academy is going to recognize them!
As for the music category, is this really necessary? I feel like this could just be a low ball attempt at making the Daytime Emmys appealing to a wider audience!March 5, 2016 at 11:00 am #430427
On a somewhat related note, I cannot help but wonder about the NUMBER of nominees in the acting categories this year. It seems as though last year five nominees competed in each category yet in Gold Derby’s predictions contest only four nominees need to be submitted. Does anyone out there know how many nominees will be announced in the acting categories later this month?March 5, 2016 at 1:00 pm #430428
I would imagine the answer is 4 nominees per category; pending ties.
This is how last year’s short list looked:
March 7, 2016 at 4:20 pm #430429
- Supporting Actress – 5 nominees
- Supporting Actor – 4 nominees
- Younger Actress – 4 nominees
- Younger Actor – 4 nominees
- Lead Actress – 5 nominees
- Lead Actor – 4 nominees
Yes, thanks for posting this cnmem10!
From what I had read earlier, I remember having the impression that because of the number of entrants, each category would shoot for five nominees unless there were ties, which, depending on the number of people who are tied, could increase or decrease the number of nominees. But I don’t really know.
