I need to get on watching some of those Emmy reels, but in the meantime, anyone want to join me in speculating on this elaborate blind item from Daytime Confidential?

    _____________________________________________________
For some time now, the suds rumor mill has been grinding out gossip about this soap or that one enduring budget cuts. At this point it would be easier to do a blind item about which sudser isn’t cutting costs!

Three out of four daytime dramas are drawing up their purse strings, according to my moles. That doesn’t mean every soap is pinching pennies in the same manner, mind you!

One soap is keeping sets standing for much longer than usual because the serial’s executive producer went so over budget with big stakes Sweeps stories. Utilizing the same old (or like new) sets is one thing; trimming the cast is another.

This one bubble maker on another dial is seriously looking at cutting down the cast. I hear a popular duo — who respectively play the children of core characters — could be shown the door.

I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t Days of Our Lives just do that? Yep, they sure did. However, I’m talking about another soap! Apparently the show’s writers can’t think of anything to do with the twosome in question.

They’re finding plenty to do with another pairing fans seem to love. Too bad the male half of the equation hates working with his female counterpart. This just might land one or both of these thespians on the chopping block. It doesn’t help that this fictional couple’s ties to the canvas are tenuous at best.

Another cost saver might be to gut the male half of yet another of this soap’s most popular current couples. Fans will go ape poop if this guy is fired. Like seriously, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near Twitter for at least two weeks. The thing is, the dude’s boss simply cannot stand him.
Speaking of chopping blocks, I hear a case is being made to oust one teflon showrunner. Hmm, I wonder who’ll be better at playing the daytime version of Game of Thrones this time?

The sudser that isn’t cutting costs is Y&R.

B&B is the one with the sets; all those outdoor scenes – impressive -must cost a great deal.

GH is likely the one; the rumor is Dante and Lulu, but that seems unlikely to me..

Franco and Nina, if MS goes back to Y&R I would be thrilled thrilled thrilled!

    I hope it’s Maurice Benard!!!!

“showrunner” – that wouldn’t be Ken Corday at Days? Is there someone else there who is considered a “showrunner”? Perhaps B&B or GH, don’t think it would be Y&R….

I was thinking that B&B was the show that wasn’t cutting costs.  It’s true that they do a lot of impressive outdoor filming, but they also seem to be the only show that’s not strapped for cash.  I thought Y&R was the one with the sets, thinking about a while back when they did all of those disaster/stunts basically at the same time (fires, crashes, etc.) and how also there are some sets that are on literally every day (like the Athletic Club).  I wondered if the “same old (or like new)” crack is a reference to the renovated Chancellor mansion that everyone seems to dislike.

But I did think the other soap in question with all the potential casting cuts was GH, and the first one did sound like Dante and Lulu, who had become as dull as dishwater by my last viewing.  I also thought Franco and Nina (their connections certainly do seem tenuous!), but there are other options on that one, too. I hadn’t even imagined that the third guy might be Maurice Benard.  I thought maybe William DeVry?  Or (less likely) Ryan Paevey or Billy Miller?  I have a hard time determining who on GH is actually popular.

I would like to think GH is going to finally get rid of Lulu and Dante, but that doesn’t seem likely.  Something tells me we are more likely to see Billy Miller leave or maybe Tyler Christopher.    Personally I think Lulu needs to be recast.   Emme Rylan just isn’t doing a particuarly good job.   She is never going to be Lulu like JMB was.

As for the duo being shown the door and they play children of core characters— To me, this seems likely to be Y&R. I’m just not sure who.

Emmy Loser: “I was thinking that B&B was the show that wasn’t cutting costs.  It’s true that they do a lot of impressive outdoor filming, but they also seem to be the only show that’s not strapped for cash. ” I was thinking in much the same way. It’s funny how the hour-long shows are allegedly more “econmical,” yet B&B is the show that never seems to be suffering budget woes. Take note, network execs!

EmmyLoser: “I thought Y&R was the one with the sets, thinking about a while back when they did all of those disaster/stunts basically at the same time (fires, crashes, etc.) and how also there are some sets that are on literally every day (like the Athletic Club).  I wondered if the “same old (or like new)” crack is a reference to the renovated Chancellor mansion that everyone seems to dislike.” Again, my thoughts exactly.

If we are correct that B&B is not one of the three soaps, and that Y&R is the show with the sets issue, and Days is eliminated because they are talking about “another soap” then the next blind item is about GH. I immediately thought of Dante and Lulu as the “popular duo — who respectively play the children of core characters.” Their story seems to have dried up as of late.

That would mean the couple whose “ties to the canvas are tenuous at best” is also on GH. Nina and Franco immediately come to mind from that part of the clue, but then again they also described the couple as “a pairing fans seem to love.” Not this fan! This is also interesting because they claim that “the male… hates working with his female counterpart.”

The last blind item is about the same soap, so if our previous guesses are right, this is about GH too. This is the one about a guy from one of the show’s most popular couples, but “the dude’s boss simply cannot stand him.” I think there are several possibilities for this one, so who knows.

I could see B & B cutting costs. Their 18-49 numbers were waaaaaay down last quarter.
