This year Debbi Morgan has a great chance of being a double nominee for her work on AMC and Y&R. I’m not sure if anyone has been a double nominee before in the Daytime Emmy’s. Also, it’s interesting to note that when Debbi won her supp. actress Emmy she tied with Nancy Lee Grahn in Santa Barbara. This year both women could once again be nominated against each other. Could we see another tie?
And also, if Debbi wins the Lead Actress Emmy she will be the first EVER African American Woman to win the Lead Emmy.
What do you all think?April 28, 2012 at 8:44 pm #422270
It’d be a fun success story, for sure. She should have won over Susan Haskell a few years ago. If Melody Thomas Scott gets in, I’m sticking with her.
I’m curious, however, if Morgan was deserving of a Y&R nomination…Was her material in 2011 that great? I know Genie Francis seemed to be out of place on Y&R yet she too is in with the prenom.

The episode Morgan submitted for Y&R was great. It’s her AA meeting where she talks about her struggles and how she is determined this time around to stick with the program after failing it many many times over. It’s a powerful eppy submission for her.
Genie Francis did good last year because she had the whole feud with her mobster husband, Colin (Tristan Rogers). Also, she was harboring the psycho Patty Williams and didn’t even realize it.
I think tape submission alone get’s Morgan in, but I think the thing that will get Francis nominated is her GH family and former costars support. I mean she’s been in the business for over 30 years and has many friends in the industry, so I think the overall support of her as a person will get her nominated, that’s why I said I’m going by who I think the Emmy’s will nominate, NOT my own personal picks.
If it were my own personal picks then I’d pick MTS, but I’m thinking about the Emmy voters and they have only nominated MTS once before, so I don’t think there is that much love out there for MTS. If she does get nominated then I would eat my words and be very happy, but sadly I think she’ll miss out on the nomination.
Also, don’t forget that almost every year people pop up saying “MTS is a slam dunk for a nomination this year with this or that submission” and MTS always submits the best eppy, but again voters don’t nominate her. Go figure.April 29, 2012 at 12:15 pm #422273
The reason MTS never made it far in the competition in the past is because her cast mates do NOT like her. It’s a known fact. It goes back to the 90’s when MTS husband was in charge and she had a “diva” type attitude. But, in the past MTS did submit her best reels. That is why so many kept predicting she’d get pre-nom’d, nom’d, or win. But, the fact that her cast mates did not like her and that Stafford and Cooper were beloved by the cast mates really hurt her chances.
And as far as the “one day out of a laughable run” argument, the Emmy voters are voting based on tape submission, NOT someone’s entire run. So, like I am doing I am going based on the one tape submission and who has a lot of friends in the industry who can pool vote for them, which is how I see Francis getting nominated.
As far as the “over” acting of Morgan in her lead acting submission, I didn’t see that. I mean, if you just find out that your child is dead, a lot of people would go over the deep end like that. Also, the Daytime Emmy’s love to nominate “over” acting and sometimes vote for it to win. I agree last year Morgan messed up on her emmy episode, which is why I’m glad she has one last shot to win this year.April 29, 2012 at 2:42 pm #422274
This is definitly looking to be a big year for Debbi. Her chances of being double nominated are great and I think she could win in lead. She should’ve won last year, but picked the wrong episode. As for her role on Y&R, it is equally awful as who I am going to talk about next, but Debbi is a stronger actress and she actually had a great episode (and if the same voters judging here also judged in lead actress, they saw the range!).
Now as for Genie Francis, I see the both sides, but I am w/gdfl at heart. That role is such a bust and her performances are no better. The way Ron and Frank are treating the veteran actresses they got back like queens, makes me angry that she’ll likely stay at Y&R only out of stubborness, b/c she made a big to do on “Oprah” and this role hasn’t lived up to what she wanted to do. I don’t think she had an episode where she didn’t act like a cartoon villian, but in my head I agree w/Ryan too. Actors are voting and if she has enough friends, who knows.
As for MTS, if she doesn’t get in w/these rule changes (still don’t know episode to discet her chances) it will speak volumes. I see her situation like this, if Hollyweird can nominate known assholes for their work, daytime should do the same. In the words of Oscar winner Mo’Nique (how weird is that to digest still lol) “It should be about the performance and not the politics” and the politics have been making the Daytime Emmys a joke for the last yrs. And for many of us here on this boards, like a bad relationship w/an abusive ex. We know they are bad and will continue to hurt us, but we still stand by them.April 29, 2012 at 9:53 pm #422275
I totally agree with you eastwest. Personally, I would NOT nominate Genie Francis, but I have a feeling that her “friends” will push her to the nomination. Which is sad because she’ll most likley take the nomination away from someone, imo more deserving.
I am hoping with all my might that MTS gets nominated this year, but I’m just going off of what has happened in the past. Also, if you note in the prenom’s in the Best Actress Race, Y&R has the most prenom’s with 3, they did prenom MTS, but they also prenom’d the two from the show that all the other cast members love, Stafford and Cooper. This happened not too long ago either where these three were prenom’d and then I believe Stafford was the only one to get nominated.May 1, 2012 at 5:52 pm #422277
If only OLTL’s last episode hadn’t aired in January; because I think the final two episodes would make fantastic submissions for Erika Slezak, and that Fraternity Row speech would imho net her the win.
