This is my dream ballot; some categories were easier than others – I had to cut six actresses from the Supporting Actress category and I could only come up with 9 pre-nominees for Lead Actor. I placed actors in the category I think they belong in, not necessarily where they think they belong. I simply couldn’t break a tie and had to nominate 7 lead actresses!

Freeman, I did my own ballot before looking at yours. Our overall lists are similar, although some of your final selections were on my runners-up list. I forced myself to limit each category to five nominees, which was very difficult!

Lead Actor
Darin Brooks, B&B
Scott Clifton, B&B
John McCook, B&B
John Aniston, Days
Billy Flynn, Days

Lead Actress
Rena Sofer, B&B
Heather Tom, B&B
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, B&B
Arianne Zucker, Days
Nancy Lee Grahn, GH

Supporting Actor
Eric Martsolf, Days
Freddie Smith, Days
Greg Vaughan, Days
Bryton James, Y&R
Miles Gaston Villanueva, Y&R

Supporting Actress
Suzanne Rogers, Days
Jane Elliot, GH
Genie Francis, GH
Camryn Grimes, Y&R
Mishael Morgan, Y&R

Young Actor
Rome Flynn, B&B
Pierson Fode, B&B
Casey Moss, Days
Bryan Craig, GH
Nicolas Bechtel, GH

Young Actress
Reign Edwards, B&B
Camila Banus, Days
Lexi Ainsworth, GH
Hayley Erin, GH
Haley Pullos, GH

As usual, the lead actress and supporting actress were the most difficult to narrow down. When it came down to a choice, I tried to go with performers who either drove the most story or did something new or especially memorable. But honestly, I would be happy to see nominations for many who are not on my list.

Since there are other categories besides those meant for daytime soap operas, I’ve chosen to focus on the programming/hosting categories. Those with asterisk(s) would be my choice for winners.

General Hospital

Days of Our Lives

Y & R

Outstanding Game Show

The Price is Right!

*Jeopardy!

Outstanding Talk Show-Entertainment

Bobby Flay (Beat Bobby Flay)

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series

B&B

*One Life to Live

General Hospital

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series

B&B

Y&R

General Hospital

As you can tell I put a great deal of thought into this list. I feel it’s fair as I’ve seen all of the shows, researched the Daytime Emmy criteria, and the list denotes diversity.

I am huge fan of Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and she is such a wonderful actress. But, I am thinking since some of you had put her in their ballots, what do you think she should sumbit? Because even though, she has drove a story all year long, I feel like she has limited reels/scenes to sumbit, what do you guys think she should sumbit, to get her the nomination?

Eric, on our thread of 2016 Daytime Emmy submissions, JMW was cited twice. On April 20, Freeman cited her for the episode where Steffy tells Liam she is married to Wyatt. On August 23, I cited her for an episode where Steffy and Wyatt argued over Quinn (I know, that could describe many episodes). None of us cited any show or performance after early December, so we may have overlooked other possibilities.

Here are mine! I had to move Kate Mansi into supporting so I could fit everyone and I wanted, and I ended up with 6 in most categories, as I just couldn’t make up my mind! Also, I only included 3 each for the younger categories, as I really don’t think there are many more that are deserving. I was also able to confirm that Felisha Cooper is under 26 (born in 1992).

Lead Actress:
Heather Tom
Laura Wright
Gina Tognoni
Nancy Lee Grahn
Maura West
Rena Sofer

Billy Flynn
Eric Braeden
John McCook
Justin Hartley
Joshua Morrow
William DeVry

Supporting Actress:
Jen Lilley
Camryn Grimes
Melissa Reeves
Kate Mansi
Genie Francis
Suzanne Rogers

Supporting Actor:
Eric Martsolf
Greg Vaughan
Chad Duell
Kristoff St. John
Steve Burton
Obba Babatunde

Younger Actress:
Lexi Ainsworth
Reign Edwards
Felisha Cooper

Younger Actor:
Bryan Craig
Pierson Fode
Rome Flynn

GHFan, you did a nice job on the ballot. You are very good about spreading the wealth among the shows. I always try to represent all shows, but my ballot is inevitably stacked toward whatever show or shows I think are best in any given year. This year it’s B&B for me, which is a first.

I forced myself down to five in each category, but it was tough. In some categories there were like eight people who really deserved a nomination and could challenge for a win, where in others filling the category felt like a bit of a stretch, not because there weren’t good choices but because a couple felt far ahead of the rest of the field. I also took a stab at guessing who might be in the guest category, and assume that all four soaps should get nods in the top categories.

EmmyLoser: is Mara McCaffray eligible for Younger Actress? I looked her up on imbd but they did not include her age?

I do not remember Emmy and Shawn on Y&R and Dixon on GH? I watched probably 85% of both shows last year but just don’t remember those 3 characters?

Interesting lists from everyone! (:

I couldn’t find confirmation of her age, either, so I’m just guessing. I’d put both her and Felisha Cooper on my lists without knowing for sure if they were eligible, but then GHFan kindly confirmed Felisha Cooper for us. As far as I could see, Mara McCaffray graduated college in 2013, and then had a couple of acting credits thereafter, so it seemed likely to me she was under 26 for 2016. But I don’t know that for sure.

Shawn on Y&R was the pregnant teen who’s baby Sage and Nick were going to adopt. Emmy on B&B was the woman who worked in the clerk’s office who helped him confirm that Wyatt and Steffy’s marriage was valid after Liam caught the priest breaking into his house. Dixon on GH was the arms dealer who held the church hostage at Alexis and Julian’s wedding. I had a very tough time trying to come up with people who would actually be eligible for that award, and mostly just went with people who either played a fairly significant role in a story but came and went last year (Summer, Claudette, Shawn) or who stood out to me after a few episodes. My options for GH and Y&R were especially limited because I only watched both shows for part of the year. Like, I’d guess that maybe Aaron on GH would be eligible here, but I barely saw him and so didn’t include him. I considered Shari Belafonte for her role as the mayor on GH, but the character already existed before this year, so I don’t think it would be eligible.

Thanks for reminding me about Dixon (Troy Ruptash); he was really really good! (: I could see him getting an Emmy nomination. I will be rooting for Bree Williamson, if she is eligible, but more because she was so robbed of Emmys for her Jessica on OLTL…

Pre-noms will be revealed on January 25, while the actual nominations will be annouced on March 22 on CBS’S The Talk. The ceremony is Sunday, April 30, 2017. No word on where it’ll be held. No word on if it’ll be televised, on the internet or on a social media app.

Thanks for the tip, gatorman. I am looking forward to the pre-noms announcement because then we will have a better idea who submitted and in what category (such as lead vs. supporting).
