We are now about 75% of the way through the year. Some big changes could shift the picture, but here are my Emmy nomination preferences based on material from January through September. Note that these are preferences and not predictions.

    OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
    The Bold and the Beautiful
    Days of Our Lives

    WRITING FOR A DRAMA SERIES
    The Bold and the Beautiful
    Days of Our Lives

    DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES
    The Bold and the Beautiful
    Days of Our Lives
    General Hospital
    The Young and the Restless

    LEAD ACTRESS
Lindsey Godfrey, The Bold and the Beautiful
Karla Mosley, The Bold and the Beautiful
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, The Bold and the Beautiful
Jen Lilley, Days of Our Lives
Melody Thomas Scott, The Young and the Restless

    LEAD ACTOR
Jacob Young, The Bold and the Beautiful
Darin Brooks, The Bold and the Beautiful
Billy Flynn, Days of Our Lives
    Chad Duell, General Hospital
Justin Hartley, The Young and the Restless

    SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Kassie DePaiva, Days of Our Lives
Judi Evans, Days of Our Lives
    Vinessa Antoine, General Hospital
    Jane Elliot, General Hospital
    Lisa LoCicero, General Hospital

    SUPPORTING ACTOR
Eric Martsolf, Days of Our Lives
Christopher Sean, Days of Our Lives
Freddie Smith, Days of Our Lives
Greg Vaughan, Days of Our Lives
    Ryan Carnes, General Hospital

    YOUNG ACTRESS
True O’Brien, Days of Our Lives
    Haley Pullos, General Hospital
Camryn Grimes, The Young and the Restless

    YOUNG ACTOR
Casey Moss, Days of Our Lives
    Nicolas Bechtel, General Hospital
    Tequan Richmond, General Hospital

    Total Nominations
    B&B = 8
    Days = 13
    GH = 9
    Y&R = 4

I placed Freddie Smith in supporting because he did not air for the entire year.

Because Y&R and GH have been so disappointing this year, I would not place them in the Drama Series or Writing categories.

So far, the person that I feel strongly about getting some well deserved recognition is Kassie DePaiva.  Aside from that, I’d love to see Michelle Stafford and MTS on the ballot, and think that Laura Wright has more than earned her place this year too.  I can also see a first nomination coming for Justin Hartley.  I doubt Jessica Collins will submit, but personally I’d rather see her get some credit for her last few weeks over perpetual nominee MCE.  I love me some Maura West, and she has done some great work, but I wouldn’t be disappointed to see some new blood.

I like the suggestions above, but I would add Kristoff St. John for Lead Actor (it’s about time he graduated to that category, and he has certainly been Lead this year), and John Aniston for Supporting Actor.

    Interesting list robbalto (: Mostly I like your list but there are some glaring omissions (;

Jessica Collins, The Young and the Restless

Karla Mosley, The Bold and the Beautiful
    Maura West, General Hospital

    LEAD ACTOR
    Chad Duell, General Hospital

Jacob Young, The Bold and the Beautiful

    SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Lauralee Bell, The Young and the Restless
    Teresa Castillo, General Hospital
Kassie DePaiva, Days Of Our LIves
Judi Evans, Days Of Our LIves
    Finola Hughes, General Hospital
Rena Sofer, The Bold and the Beautiful

    SUPPORTING ACTOR
John Aniston, Days Of Our Lives
    Ryan Carnes, General Hospital
Bryan Datillo, Days Of Our Lives
Christopher Sean, Days Of Our Lives
Greg Vaughan, Days Of Our Lives

    YOUNGER ACTRESS
Reign Edwards, The Bold and the Beautiful
Camryn Grimes, The Young and the Restless
True O’Brien, Days Of Our Lives
Ashlyn Pearce, The Bold and the Beautiful
    Haley Pullos, General Hospital

    YOUNGER ACTOR
    Nicholas Bechtel, General Hospital
Casey Moss, Days Of Our Lives
(blanking out on actor’s name) Kyle, Days Of Our Lives
    Tequan Richmond, General Hospital

    GUEST PERFORMER
Obba Bubbatande, The Bold and the Beautiful
    Patricia Crowley, General Hospital
Anna Maria Horsford, The Bold and the Beautiful
    Young Luke, General Hospital
    Young Pat, General Hospital

(and: I wish they had the following category, for performers who return for short-term stints):

    SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMER (recurring)
Eileen Davidson, Days Of Our Lives
    Jonathan Jackson, General Hospital
    Robin Mattson, General Hospital
    Donna Mills, General Hospital
    (*Alison Sweeney, Days Of Our Lives – she hasn’t aired yet, but I know she would be on this list and I would likely want her to win, to make up for last year’s travesty…) (;

Gosh, I had to cut so many worthy contenders: Lauren Koslow, Jane Elliot, Lisa LoCicero, Vinessa Antoine, Rebecca Herbst, Kirsten Storms, Melissa Reeves, Peggy McCay, Tracey E. Bregman, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Jen Lilley, Kristian Alfonso, Ari Zucker for actresses; Tyler Christopher, Eric Martsolf, Christian LeBlanc, Kristoff St. John, Anthony Geary, Darin Brooks, Drake Hogestyn, Parry Shen, Doug Davidson for actors – I’m sure there are others too!

I thought long and hard about Deidre Hall and must say she SUPPORTS others brilliantly but I placed her in the Lead Actress category. I love the way she listens to other characters and has had a great deal of storyline – she’s borderline but it gave me someone for Lead Actress. Based on “Emmy reels” I have to say Jessica Collins impressed the hell out of me in her last few months on the show.

(Freddie Smith is on record as saying if he submits it will be in Lead Actor; I guess I just felt he was a Lead Actor and not a supporting one during his 8 months on the show).

Gdfl, you have often made a great argument for how actors like Michelle Stafford elevate their roles, even when the stories are not good. I agree with that, but in a crowded category with numerous contenders, I tend to choose the ones with good performances and good stories. The writing for Nina Clay has been so inconsistent that I find it difficult to evaluate Stafford but I do agree that she gives it her all and, as bad as the show is, it would be even worse if Nina were portrayed by a less-talented actress. I love Maura West and Laura Wright as well. I have no issue with them being nominated. But given their stories, I would select others first. On a similar note, I love Jason Thompson, but sadly he has not had much material to work with this year.

    Freeman, it seems as though we like the same people; we just prioritize a little differently! ;

Nothing could make me support Tony Geary. He gave one outstanding performance on April 1, but his performances otherwise were not worth yet another award.

And yes, I am all about new blood! 🙂 Smile Most of my nominees are not previous winners.

I agree with most of the pics y’all have said so far, but thought
I would throw mine in anyways.  I just
did the main acting categories for now, since last year they just included all
of the shows in the show/writing/directing categories now that we only have 4
left.  Obviously, things will change a
little once we know who submitted in what category.  I tried to take into consideration a little
bit of where they should vs. where I think they will submit in deciding where
    to put them for now.

    Lead
    Actress:

    Maura West, GH

    Karla Mosely, BB

    Jessica Collins, YR

    Finola Hughes, GH

    Melissa Claire Egan, YR

    Runner Ups:  Sharon
    Case, MTS, Laura Wright

    Supporting
    Actress:

    Kassie DePaiva, DAYS

    Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, BB

    Judi Evans, DAYS

    Lauralee Bell, YR

    Linsey Godfrey, BB

    Rebecca Herbst, GH

    Runner Ups:  Michelle
    Stafford, Lisa LoCicero

    Younger
    Actress:

    Ashlyn Pearce, BB

    Reign Edwards, BB

    Camryn Grimes, YR

    Ashleigh Brewer, BB

    Lead
    Actor:

    Justin Hartley, YR

    Jacob Young, BB

    Billy Flynn, DAYS

    Freddie Smith, DAYS

    Tyler Christopher, GH

    Supporting
    Actor:

    Doug Davidson, YR

    Christopher Sean, DAYS

    Eric Martsolf, DAYS

    Darrin Brooks, BB

    Chad Duell, GH

    Younger
    Actor:

    Casey Moss, DAYS

    Bryan Craig, GH

    Tequan Richmond, GH

    Nicholas Bechtel, GH

                I think I’ve
said this before, but something I noticed this year was how competitive the
Lead and Supporting Actress categories are this year.  I had a hard time limiting it only down to 5
or 6, as I think each category could have 10 people and they would all be
    deserving!

It will be interesting to see
how the rest of the year shakes out.
Someone I have my eye on is Pierson Fode from B&B (Thomas) for
younger actor (he’s 24).  I have thought he
was a really natural performer from the beginning of his run and he has only
gotten better, there just hasn’t been a single performance to single out
yet.  I think the reveal that he and
Caroline slept together will be soon, so he might steal a spot on the younger
actor list depending on what he gets coming up.
I’m also curious to see if Jason Thompson will get any material, as he
is someone who has been a perennial nominee, but he hasn’t really had any meaty
material this year.  I think that Laura
Wright and Billy Miller are also two people I will keep my eye on, especially
if we get the Jason reveal before the end of the year.  That reveal could give both of them the
material to potentially make the list!

                Random
thought, but I surprised even myself by putting Ashleigh Brewer on here.  I know a lot of people don’t like the
character, but I think Ashleigh did some really solid work following Aly’s
death and all of the stuff with vs. Steffy.
For me, it came down to her, Hunter King, and True O’Brien, and I
thought Ashleigh gave consistent performances over her whole storyline, where I
thought Hunter and True only gave one or two strong performances over the
    course of the year.

The funny thing about our lists is that they will be blown to bits by actors who do not submit or submit in a different category than the one where we placed them. So many actors are on the Lead/Supporting borderline.

GHFan, I actually like your list a lot. It certainly shows that you are fair and inclusive in recognizing the various shows.

I do not have any issues with Brewer. True, I have been vocal about disliking Ivy; but I guess that means that Brewer must be doing a good job! For the record, though, I think True O’Brien is generally underrated and turned in great performances all year.

I had the same thought as you about Pierson Fode; we will see what the coming weeks bring.

I do wish they would let us know who submitted and in which category – I asked last year and was told the reason they don’t is that it would hurt the feelings of those that don’t make it into the pre-nominations round. But my belief about it is that we should get to know who submitted and decide for ourselves whether their peers have been stupid or not in their choices.

With that said, I am wondering if Kassie DePaiva really belongs in the LEAD Actress category? Placing her in Lead changes everything and I would definitely root for her in that category, where I would be torn between her and Judi Evans in the Supporting Actress category.

Who would I cut from Lead Actress then? Sharon? Maura? Jessica? Karla? I would not cut Deidre, I think she’s been fantastic this year…

These would be my ten pre-nominees with KDP in Lead Actress:

    Kristian Alfonso, Days
    Sharon Case, Y&R
    Jessica Collins, Y&R
    Kassie DePaiva, Days
    Deidre Hall, Days
    Jen Lilley, Days
    Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, B&B
    Karla Mosley, B&B
    Maura West, GH
    Arianne Zucker, Days

    Supporting Actress:

    Lauralee Bell, Y&R
    Teresa Castillo, GH
    Jane Elliot, GH
    Judi Evans, Days
    Nancy Lee Grahn, GH
    Finola Hughes, GH
    Lauren Koslow, Days
    Lisa LoCicero, GH
    Rena Sofer, B&B
    Melody Thomas Scott, Y&R

    Younger Actress:

    Kristen Alderson, GH
    Camila Banus, Days
    Lauren Boles, Days
    Ashleigh Brewer, B&B
    Reign Edwards, B&B
    Camryn Grimes, Y&R
    Hunter King, Y&R
    True O’Brien, Days
    Ashlyn Pearce, B&B
    Haley Pullos, GH

    Lead Actor:

    Darin Brooks, B&B
    Tyler Christopher, GH
    Chad Duell, GH
    Billy Flynn, Days
    Anthony Geary, GH
    Justin Hartley, Y&R
    Christian LeBlanc, Y&R
    Eric Martsolf, Days
    Freddie Smith, Days
    Jacob Young, B&B

    Supporting Actor:

    Robert Adamson, Y&R
    John Aniston, Days
    Ryan Carnes, GH
    Bryan Datillo, Days
    Doug Davidson, Y&R
    Drake Hogestyn, Days
    Christopher Sean, Days
    Parry Shen, GH
    Paul Telfer, Days
    Greg Vaughan, Days

    Younger Actor:

    Nicholas Bechtel, GH
    Bryan Craig, GH
    Pierson Fode, B&B
    Kyle, Days
    Casey Moss, Days
    Tequan Richmond, GH

Great list, Freeman! Kassie DePaiva is on the bubble between Lead and Supporting. I am ok with her in either category, but I agree that it would be advantageous to have DePaiva and Judi Evans in different categories. I guess we can make a final determination around the end of the year. One of the frustrating aspects of Days is that their Emmy nominees always seem to be actors that have left or are about to leave. Come watch Emmy winner Eileen Davidson on Days! Oh wait, she’s not there anymore. Come watch Emmy winner Freddie Smith! Oh wait…! It would be even worse with Kassie DePaiva because they chose to write her off. Nevertheless, I am supporting her. She has done great work this year. But it would be nice to see recognition for someone who is actually on the show — and staying.

Days should sweep just about every category. True O’Brien should definitely win Younger Actress in a landslide. Casey Moss (or Tequan Richmond) should take Younger Actor. Kassie DePaiva should win Lead or Supporting. Days should win Best Drama Series.

No more Maura (with her overrated character), Amelia or Hunter King. They haven’t done anything to warrant repeat wins.

While i was swimming this morning I had the most awful thought: what IF the Best Actor category was the following four: Maurice Benard, Peter Bergman, Eric Braeden, and Anthony Geary? I would be really upset; I would vote for “no award given”; and I would want a write-in campaign for Freddie Smith, Billy Flynn, Justin Hartley, Tyler Christopher, Chad Duell and/or Jacob Young (:

Unfortunately I have an awful feeling that Hunter King will threepeat: she has a dynamite Emmy reel with the episode of Austin’s funeral, where she tells everybody off (a million times better than her flat submission for which she won her Emmy this past year). Also, the others don’t have super-great episodes to submit. Camryn Grimes, True O’Brien, Kristen Alderson (her “goodbye” scenes with Roger Howarth would be the epi I would submit for her), nuKiki (yikes!), Camila Banus (I’m assuming she will get some good material with A Martinez coming up between now and December – is she still under 25?), Reign Edwards, Ashlyn Pearce, Ashleigh Brewer, Lauren Boles, Brooklyn Rae Sigler (yesterday’s episode, with her conversation with Sam and Anna was really strong)…

I love that everyone is refusing to call her anything but nuKiki despite the fact that it’s been half a year.

I was thinking if I absolutely could only choose four nominees instead of five, who would I personally nominate? I would have to leave out a TON of deserving nominees, yes, but my criteria would be: who has surprised me? Who has done truly exceptional work, particularly consistantly? My category placements could wind up being way off base, but here are my own unique top fours for 2015 so far:

    Best Actor:
Billy Flynn, Days Of Our Lives
Justin Hartley, The Young and the Restless
Freddie Smith, Days Of Our Lives
Jacob Young, The Bold and the Beautiful

    Best Actress:
Jessica Collins, The Young and the Restless
Kassie DePaiva, Days Of Our Lives
Deidre Hall, Days Of Our Lives
Karla Mosley, The Bold and the Beautiful

    Best Supporting Actor:
John Aniston, Days Of Our Lives
Bryan Datillo, Days Of Our Lives
Drake Hogestyn, Days Of Our Lives
Christopher Sean, Days Of Our Lives

    Best Supporting Actress:
Lauralee Bell, The Young and the Restless
    Teresa Castillo, General Hospital
Judi Evans, Days Of Our Lives
    Finola Hughes, General Hospital

    Best Younger Actor:
    Nicholas Bechtel, General Hospital
Pierson Fode, The Bold and the Beautiful
Casey Moss, Days Of Our Lives
    Tequan Richmond, General Hospital

Best Younger Actress (not sure who I would cast my vote for):
Camila Banus, Days Of Our Lives
Reign Edwards, The Bold and the Beautiful
Camryn Grimes, The Young and the Restless
True O’Brien, Days Of Our Lives

Best Guest Performer (last year’s rules; only new characters/actors):
Obba Babbatunde, The Bold and the Beautiful
    (Young Luke), General Hospital
    (Young Patricia), General Hospital
    Dee Wallace Stone, General Hospital

The Bold and the Beautiful: 5 nominations
Days Of Our Lives: 12 nominations
    General Hospital: 7 nominations
The Young and the Restless: 4 nominations

I like your concept of the new “unique” top four, Freeman. I do not want to see the same old faces on the nominee list this year.

One caveat, however, is that I would place Freddie Smith and Jessica Collins in Supporting since they did not air for the entire year.

In reference to your post on October 8, it would be awful if the nominees for were Geary, Benard, Braeden, and Bergman! But I’ll bet Chad Duell submits himself in Supporting again out of “deference” to Benard.

^Tony Geary hardly aired at all last year and won; Billy Miller was on &R for only 1 month and was nominated…

    Freddie Smith has said in an interview that if he submits it will be in lead. And there’s the rub, some of our favorites might decide not to submit at all & of course there will be category fraud, such as Peggy McCay (and the irony is: she may have won her damn Emmy if she had submitted in the Supporting Actress category!) (;

As for Jessica Collins, her work was so stellar & strong and she was the lead in her story, but I can understand that it could be borderline… she submitted in lead last year & was pre-nommed… there are so many borderline category placements this year!
