Sometimes a few episodes can turn into more. Fingers crossed. She’s fabulous.

Sounds like, Boidiva, the Soap Gods must’ve heard your suggestion over in the “Eileen Davidson Out at DOOL” thread, because they sure made it happen!
First and foremost, I think we should take this as a very good sign that ED feels ready to come back to work. And secondly, I’m so glad to hear that she’s decided not to venture outside the realm of daytime for her acting pursuits. She’s already considered a soap legend, and belongs nowhere else but here in daytime! Now, if it was the right decision of hers to return to Y&R instead of DAYS, that still remains to be seen. Theoretically, ED’s return to Y&R could work wonders for the show in the same way that her reprisal of the role of Kristen was a big shot in the arm for DAYS this past year. But we also have to keep in mind that one big reason factoring into ED’s successful return to DAYS is the excellent writing which was already well in place before ED came on board and which also helped propel her storyline to its greatness. I’m not so sure if Ashley’s return will produce the same effect if the writing is lacking to begin with. But since ED won’t be appearing until late October, perhaps this will allow the new writers enough time to work their magic and find a creative way to re-introduce Ashley to the canvas, even if, at the moment, it appears that ED will air in only three episodes.  So let’s all take babypook’s advice, and keep our fingers crossed and hope this move will bode well for Y&R!

Yes good writing is critical for Ashley because of her complexities. The poor writing in the past unfortunately made the character come off as an ice princess or shrew at times, when really Ashley is much much more than that. I’m glad we will at least see ED though. If I have the dates correct, she will still be airing as Kristen while airing as Ashley.

I also think what helped her at DOOL is the sheer excitment over her characater returning to the canvas. Kristen is the type of character that generates massive publicity and excitment, even on her least exciting day.  Ashley, though a vital and important character, to me, never has generated as much excitement or interest from the general public or critics.       I think people so clearly wanted Kristen back for so long that it was virtually impossible to screw up that return.      Whereas, I think there is high potential for the return of Ashley to be screwed up in many different ways.

I actually kind of thought the opposite, that anticipated and expectations for Kristen’s return on DAYS were so high that it would be extremely tough not to have people feel it was screwed up.

Ashley being back on Y&R is certainly good news for that show, but it’s a shame for them it’s only for a few days.  I guess Eileen Davidson is fine with short term commitments for smaller gigs, but I wouldn’t take this as a sign she’s ready to jump back in full time.  I wonder, though, if Y&R wanted that and she declined?  Who knows.  It is funny that Kristen will still be on DAYS when Ashley is on Y&R.  And isn’t this the second time that’s happening since Kristen’s return on DAYS?

^^^ Yes, that is indeed the second time that’s happened! With that in mind, surely ED must now hold the record for the number of times the same actress has scenes airing concurrently on two different soaps while appearing as two different characters!  Lesli Kay deserves an honorable mention, though, for her appearances as both Molly on ATWT and Felicia on B&B, which I believe (if my memory serves me right) at one point overlapped in airtime. Perhaps there are other actors I’ve missed thinking of, who deserve to be in this special group alongside ED and Kay?

There are probably others, but I think Lauren Koslow did a return stint as Margo on B&B, on loan from DAYS, while she was playing Kate, maybe 10 or so years ago, when Joe Mascolo was still on B&B as Massimo.  I don’t know that Margo and Kate aired on the same days, though.

It’s funny to think that, before the return to DAYS was officially happening, ED was willing to pull double duty and just play Ashley and Kristen at the same time on a regular basis.  That would have really been something, but given the demanding pace at DAYS and how she was ready for a break after a year there, it might not have worked out anyway.

I think it would have been easy for ED to play both roles at the same time since the Y&R people did not know what to do with Ashley for the longest time.  If Ashley were around now, I’d be clamoring for her to take Faith away from Sharon.  While she has no legal standing, I dont’ think any of the Newmans would deny that Ashley was a good mother to Faith.

I’d like to see ED return to Y&R to torture Adam for throwing her baby in the fireplace and burning it.  That scene still haunts me and yet it’s never mentioned.

I told my husband last night that if Adam gets custody of Chelsea’s baby after the long list of heinous crimes he has committed – I will stop watching Y&R.  I can suspend disbelief on some fronts, but not Adam.  On top of the entire Ashley/Sharon/Faith situation, Adam also lured Richard Hightower to town for the sole purpose of letting Patty kill him so that everyone would think Adam was dead.  Adam framed Nick for that crime.  Adam helped Patti Williams escape from the mental home and she later came back and shot Jack (which is why Jack and Adam’s friendship makes little sense considering it was this act that caused many to finally turn on Adam, including Sharon).  What else?  Adam threw the evidence proving Sharon did not kill Skye into the creek so that it would be gone for good.  If you ask me, Chelsea had good, and very public reasons for keeping Adam from his child.

    Well said on all counts.

Considering Days tapes like 7 months in advance means ED  might be on Y&R and Days at the same time!

Yes, I’m pretty sure she will.  I’d love to put two TVs side by side to see if Ashley and Kristen will actually be on the air at the same moment in my market in central Jersey.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Eileen Davidson is taping additional episodes at Y&R, a couple that are appearing in late November/early December.

^^^ This is really great news! Looks like babypook’s prophesy may be coming true…

It’ll be wonderful seeing Ashley back in town especially around the holidays when Billy needs his sister the most and I’m glad the entire family will benefit from having an extra emotional support system after the sudden loss of Delia.
