NOOOOO!!!July 30, 2013 at 9:14 pm #425297
Je ne sais VHAT?!
And fucking side eye to Kenny’s “first shot in the arm” comment. It’s like ol girl is smelling herself something fierce after that Emmy win. Humble yourself, bitch. Anyways, this sucks for the show. They already losing that top tier younger set and now this.July 31, 2013 at 1:31 am #425298
Just saw the title of this thread and thought to myself, this must be a hoax! DAYS would never in its right mind let ED go, especially not now!?? But it looks like the news about her leaving is credible, and it was Davidson’s decision to leave? This cannot be happening! I’m absolutely stunned. Not to mention the worst news exactly on my birthday. Ugh, good God! Nooooooooooo!!!!!July 31, 2013 at 7:35 am #425299
I’m speechless. This is such horrible news. I don’t even know what to say. They’re idiots to let her go. I’m pretty sure if NBC offered her more money she would’ve stayed.July 31, 2013 at 7:54 am #425300
First off, – HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALOKIN!!!!
I saw this and thought it had to be a joke, but after reading the link, it appears as though ED wants some time off. I find it odd since she was so quick to jump at Days’ offer to re-join the cast last year that she would be so dismissive about doing another show. Y&R could sure use her back especially since Stafford is gone.
Is it me, or is this casting stuff getting crazier and crazier. First Flannery retires. Then Burton left GH after 19 years and quickly joined Y&R. Peter Reckell and Ronn Moss left their respective long-term roles. Stafford quit. Jeanne Cooper died, and Lucci isn’t a part of the AMC reboot. What next?July 31, 2013 at 12:06 pm #425301
Yes, happy birthday alokin! What terrible news to get today! I would have been in here earlier to cry about it, but I’ve been nauseous for the last three hours. Ugh.
eastwest, I don’t see why the “first shot in the arm” comment bothered you so much. Seems like an appropriate thing to say when people’s natural reaction is likely going to be that the show will crumble without her.
Obviously, this news SUCKS, hard. I wonder how this went down. It’s my feeling that, given what having her on DAYS has done for the show both creatively and in terms of buzz/ratings, DAYS would have bent over backwards to accommodate any pay increase request that was even remotely reasonable. Budgets are limited, sure, but they are supposedly losing a good chunk of the younger set and frankly have a few people they could cut if they needed to, or that they could at least bump down/reduce their pay or hours to make that happen. So it would be my guess that Eileen Davidson just wants time off to be with family, like she said. I’m hoping this is more of a break than an actual departure, and that she’ll take some time with family and then be ready to come back. I can’t imagine she’d prefer to go back to Y&R, given the choice, considering the way things have gone there and who’s in charge now. Plus, the whole DAYS thing happened because of Sony. They might be resistant to her returning to Y&R after leaving DAYS. But I’m going to just take what we’re getting at face value for now.
I wonder what DAYS will do now. The writing has really been solid, so I hope that the mini-upheaval in casting doesn’t derail them. I wonder if they’ll try to go after the big name Y&R just lost and try to import Michelle Stafford somehow. The changes make me worried.
You’re right, PujolsFan. These casting shenanigans are getting crazier and crazier!July 31, 2013 at 2:50 pm #425302
This is such sad and unexpected news. If ED wanted more personal time, couldn’t they have put her on recurring? That way should could have gotten a break, the show could have kept some sort of a committment for the future, and it would have prevented the fan outrage. At this point I’m not really interested in seeing ED (or anything else) on Y&R, but it would be neat if she could somehow go back to B&B. They wrote Ashley really well there in the beginning.July 31, 2013 at 5:09 pm #425303

They could’ve definitely given her a break, which is why I think there is something fishy with the explanation. If they offered her more money there would be no doubt in my mind she would’ve stayed. Something went down and I hope we find out soon what it was.July 31, 2013 at 8:43 pm #425304
Yeah I was probably a bit extra w/my response given her response since, but that is such Corday speak (remember “spokes on a wheel”?). But I know we all waiting in anticipation for the annual “Plan to Save DAYS” SOD cover.August 1, 2013 at 8:00 am #425305
I’m really unsure about what to think of Eileen’s TV Guide interview. She says she may come back, but doesn’t know if or when. Also, they’re casting something that looks like her to tie up any loose ends, which makes me think she may be in a hospital bed or in a coffin. Who knows?August 1, 2013 at 8:40 am #425306
I love that she gives Ken Corday a smack in the tv guide interview for being the one to announce her leaving when they asked her months ago to keep quiet. I just don’t think she was happy there and it’s obvious that she was putting in too many hours.August 1, 2013 at 11:58 pm #425307
Thanks so much, Pujolsfan and EmmyLoser, for your kind birthday wishes! I really appreciate it, and you definitely lifted my spirits. And thank you Djoko for sharing that very revealing TV Guide article! You gotta hand it to Michael Logan, he sure got all the juicy details out of Davidson. I was surprised at how frank she was in the interview. Well, at least we know now that it was ED’s personal decision to leave (which I suppose is more comforting than to learn that she was simply let go, which alone the idea of would’ve been unimaginable). It seems like all those scripts week-in, week-out must’ve just been too much work overload on poor her, and she just needed a breather to recharge, which is completely understandable. I guess the silver lining is that she’s still leaving the door open for a possible return. After reading the interview, though, all I could think of was, wow, EmmyLoser had in his earlier post in this thread touched on some of the very points ED discussed; Sony for one, then the issue w/Y&R, you even used the same word, “shenanigans”! Goodness, you’re proving to be quite the psychic around here!
And I agree, things could perhaps get even more interesting if ED were to make a return to B&B at some point in the future. Notice how gdfl didn’t want us to stray too far into the clouds though dreaming up an Ashley Abbott return, reminding us that B&B “wrote Ashley really well there in the beginning“. Just love how, in the littlest ways, gdfl always makes sure we all stay grounded!August 6, 2013 at 9:37 am #425308
You’re welcome, alokin!
eastwest, I had forgotten about that “spokes on a wheel” comment. Ugh. How annoying, too, that Ken asked ED not to say anything and then gives her no heads up before revealing that she’s leaving the show. Very annoying, and frankly the kind of thing I would think might hurt the chances of her coming back.
This interview is interesting, and I do love how frank ED seems to be here. The comment about Kristen having a short shelf life is particularly interesting. I guess that’s a bit of a catch-22 situation. I could easily imagine Kristen, after this most recent stunt is exposed, potentially making some strides at attempting to be a better person and playing it on the straight and narrow for a while. She could be more like EJ, sometimes really doing the right thing and having no one believe that she’s being altruistic, sometimes totally up to no good, and often somewhere in between. But ED seems to feel like the real meat of Kristen is in her over the top, frontburner antics. Sure, that makes her great to watch, but I’d love to watch the character try to be good without first having committed a couple of felonies she’s trying to cover up.
It’s no surprise that the pace of the show is grueling and she feels like she’s working all the time. When she left DAYS last time, back in 1998, it was with a similar reasoning — she was burned out on the pace of the show. Then, though, she was playing five characters. The pace now is just the unfortunate reality of the industry. I’m just hoping she enjoys the break and feels ready to come back to DAYS soon. She seems more likely to return to DAYS than to Y&R, which clearly could have been trying to woo her back for the past four months if they wanted to. Ashley is, after all, much more suited to a supporting role than Kristen would be.August 7, 2013 at 11:28 am #425309
I could see her on GH somehow involved in the Jerome family stuff, possibly involved with Roger Howarth…BUT I’d really like to see her on B&B again.August 7, 2013 at 4:27 pm #425310
^^ Theoretically yes, and maybe see her in a rivalry opposite Maura West (which should have happened on Y&R except Ashely was randomly being nice to Diane, a woman that she has never approved of, but I digress). But GH is on its way to being as bad as Y&R. It is becoming impossible to keep track of who is who since all the new characters have multiple names and fake identities, who is alive vs dead vs alive-but-used-to be-dead, and the vast majority of the show right now revolves around recently introduced or re-introduced characters that the audience has barely gotten to know let alone gotten to like.
