According to SOD, Davidson’s decided to return to Y&R full- time. Her upcoming DAYS stint is a short-term one (12 weeks). She’ll start airing on Y&R in September, meaning she’ll be airing on both shows at the same time for a brief period.

Not sure what she’s thinking. She might not know about Y&R’s current creative state or their current EP’s history with actresses of a certain age, but surely she must recognize that DAYS treats her like the leading lady she is while Y&R hasn’t given her substantial material in years. I mean DAYS writes their whole show around Davidson. When is the last time Y&R did that?

That might be why she would rather be at Y&R full-time. She has said both times after leaving DAYS that the workload was just too much for her to sustain long term and still have enough time for her family and other projects. I guess she’d rather take the lighter workload at Y&R.

This is really unfortunate. I don’t know what to say about it.

Y&R is the pits. But, if she’s happy, not much we can do about it.

Obviously it makes me very sad she won’t be on DAYS longer, like my stomach got a knot when I read that this morning.  The 12 weeks was news to me, but I didn’t think she was at DAYS long term.

BUT, since she won’t be on DAYS anyway, it’s great to have her somewhere on a regular basis.  Y&R isn’t great, but it’s having its moments, and having Davidson and Ashley around only makes it better.  I do think the DAYS workload is a big issue — though I’d think they could find a way to write her with somewhat less screentime if it was just a matter of not being frontburner all the time.  I get the feeling ED and Y&R probably have a deal that treats her more like a recurring actor, where she’s popping up on a regular basis but really not heavily in the mix of anything.  That couldn’t have worked at DAYS.

She has always taken Days for granted.

^^  I don’t think that is a fair statement.  When ED left Days last year, yes she said that the workload was too much, but also that she’d basically rather not play Kristen at all than continually have plots stretched and other characters sacrificed to prop her.  To me, that reasoning actually makes sense.  Here is the interview.

There is a little more to this than first reported.

ED just revealed in a new interview that her contract with Y&R is unique in that she has specifically worked in a clause that allows her to work on DAYS while employed by Y&R.  Basically, Y&R has to work with her schedule to allow her to be used on DAYS if she is needed there,

She called it “the DAYS clause”.  So it snds like DAYS will still be able to use her in the future, but in a more limited role.  Her main committment is to Y&R, but they have to let her have outs to do DAYS.

What’s interesting about this is Sony (which owns Y&R and DAYS) wanted Eileen to have a dual contract that would allow her to work on both shows, but Y&R refused to share her with DAYS and as a resuly Sony terminated her contract with Y&R and hired her at DAYS.  Its obvious her new contract with Y&R has clearly been partially constructed by Sony and is essentially forcing Y&R to allow her out-clauses to do DAYS.

That is very encouraging as a fan of her on DAYS.

It is quite obvious that she is more popular on DAYS and the bigger/meatier role is Kristen.

I’m always happy to see Eileen return to Y&R, but I guess my question is, what do they have planned for her? Ashley is a great character, but the part has not been written well for years. At this point, DAYS certainly seems to make better use of Davidson, but hopefully Y&R will write good stories for her this time.

Thanks for that info, Scooper.  That’s very encouraging.

I’m not sure what Y&R has planned for Ashley, but I enjoyed seeing her politely spar with Victoria over Dr. Ben when she was on a couple of months ago.  Maybe they want her to help sell the audience on nuBilly.

Yes, I love when Ashley is doing battle with other women.  She’s classy, dignified, and bitchy all at the same time.  And if indeed Y&R is bringing Eileen to usher in nuBilly, then IMO they are really on top of their game.  There are some actors who consistenly seem to bring out the best in their costars, and Eileen has always been one of them.

Yeah, in terms of being classy and dignified, Ashley is the anti-Kristen.
