It’s true: GH’s Kimberly McCullough (Robin) is exiting Port Charles, but will air into the early months of 2012. “Kimberly McCullough has decided to pursue her dream of directing full-time, so she has decided to leave GENERAL HOSPITAL as storyline dictates,” says a show spokesperson. “Expect a poignant and must watch storyline for Robin and Patrick.” This announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) has also opted out.
I’m starting to get the really unfortunate feeling of rats jumping from a sinking ship with this show. It seems like no one who works there has any confidence that ABC will keep them on the air, which is a shame.
I can’t blame them for having no confidence in ABC. Plus the writing hasn’t shown any considerable improvement even with a regime change. I don’t have much faith in the show ever being entertaining again myself. And Jackson and McCullough were both smart enough to pursue other interests while at GH. With his rock band and her directing, they’re both prepared to move on. I hope they’ll both go far outside of daytime.
Kim deserved Emmy nominations the last two years and didn’t even get a pre-nomination. And now she’s hitting this storyline out of the park. I hope with the new Emmy system that she can earn a final nomination (and win) because she is the best actress on General Hospital. She is a soap legend.
