Last Saturday was the 60th Anniversary for both As the World Turns and The Edge of Night.

On my blog on Friday for both the milestone and April Fool’s, I posted this on the Bryan Awards blog.

But, what were your favorite moments from ATWT & EON?  Couples?

I miss these two shows so much! Last year, I watched just about everything I could find of TEON on YouTube. My favorite – by far – was the 9 months that Emmy nominee Kim Hunter played Nola Madison – alcoholic has-been actress trying to make a comeback in a movie in which she plays a 20 year old witch who also commits murder and mayhem! I also oved the puppet murders! That show was great!

I have watched YouTube episodes of ATWT but there is less out there. The shows from the early years – live and with organ music – is fun. Unfortunately, pretty much everything from the mid-60’s through the late 70’s is lost (or at least not available on YouTube). I started watching the show on a regular basis in 1980 – I loved esp. Margaret Coiin’s Margo and would watch the last 15 min. when i got home from school! Also loved Kim Stewart Andropolous (eventually Hughes)! Meg Ryan was on the show then. Eileen Fulton went off the show and Lisa was played by Betsy von Furstenberg for a few years. My favorite period though was the Douglas Marland years: 1985-93. And then the Carly Tenney (Snyder) years: 1994-2010 (with one year off when Maura left the show, i suspect she had a child during that time?). So many great memories!

I miss these shows as well!

Like Freeman, I started watching ATWT in 1980. I loved Colleen Zenk and Margaret Colin, and was delighted when their stories merged! I also enjoyed the initial romance of Tom and Margo, as played by Justin Deas and Margaret Colin. I was disappointed when they left, but then we had Gregg Marx, Hillary B. Smith, Scott Holmes, and Ellen Dolan, all of whom I enjoyed. Then there was the Steve/Betsy/Craig triangle when Meg Ryan was on the show; and then Julianne Moore as Franny Hughes.

My favorite era was most definitely the Doug Marland era. Kim’s Secret Admirer, Bob’s Affair, Iva and Lucinda’s Secret, The Snyder Farm. So many great actors, characters, and stories. For me, the show was never the same after Doug Marland.

I also started watching “The Edge of Night” in 1980. Since it was cancelled in 1984, I did not get to see much in comparison to other shows, but I liked it. Raven Whitney was my favorite. I think EON would be a great candidate for a soap reboot.
