Wow, that’s kind of awesome.  I’m surprised the Academy is letting them do that.

You mean HLNTV.com — as in CNN Headline News

Gold Derby is the leading force behind this drive. We’ve been twisting arms behind the scene at the TV academy. It started because NATAS has been trying NOT to send us the DVDs for our usual at-home judging panels here in the Gold Derby forums — duplicating the DVDs costs them $1,200. So they considered just putting the reels on line for everybody to see. They checked the fine print of the contract agreements signed when contenders submitted video for judging. Bingo. Permission was granted to digital rights for replay, so they’re doing this. I’ve been in frequent contact with NATAS chair Malachy Weinges and Daytime Emmy chief David Michaels while this new system was devised.

So, yes, this means that, if you signed up to be one of our judges, you will not be receiving the DVDs. There is still a bit of mystery over the non-acting categories. HLN will be showing those episodes, but there is some issue about the others …. I’m still working that out with them.

so, yeah, this is another BRILLIANT STROKE by Gold Derby to open up the voting process of a major Hollywood award so that everybody can see what’s going on …

And THIS is why I LOVE being a member of this site. We may not always get along or agree, but this site works wonders. Thank you Tom for all of your hard and wonderful work you have done behind the scenes for this site. I feel we don’t really thank you enough, so thank you so much!

Just watched the Younger Actor reels. Doesn’t look like Chandler Massey has any real competition.

Max Ehrich shows emotion and might have had a shot if his reel were longer than 3 minutes. Bryton James has the longest reel but doesn’t show any emotion until the very last moment, and there’s nothing at all about his performance with his co-stars that tries to convey his character’s deafness. Freddie Smith is perfectly fine, but emotionally there’s not much for him to play and it’s really just one note.

I can’t see Chandler losing. Voters can tell Max is a talented actor in his reel but just not enough time and a very hard charcter to like. Byton and Freddie is more about thier feeling of the screens than the acting I felt.

My heart is telling me it’s between Chandler and Bryton… I think that the Y&R voting bloc is very strong and may play in favor of Bryton.    But Chandler is so good, he may win.

None of these reels were great.  It likely comes down to Massey and James.  I’ll go with Massey but I’m less than enthusiastic about it.

what do you mean none were great? What exactly was “not” great about chandler massey’s reel? I hope he pulls a double whammy and wins again!

I think it close between Woods and Alderson with Morgan as a possible spoiler. King gets outshined by Michelle in her scenes

I think this one will be close too. MacInnes Wood has the most range (laughing, crying, singing) and feels the most natural, but her reel doesn’t have a lot of impact. Plus, some of that exposition about their crazy relationship is very silly.

Alderson has the most impact, but her reel is wall-to-wall tears. Not much range, though this was my favorite reel of the bunch.

King gives a solid performance in what is essentially Stafford’s showcase. Still, she holds her own, and it wouldn’t be an outrage if she wins. She has a decent shot.

Morgan isn’t completely out of it, but I don’t think she’s very good in her reel. Nevertheless, she does a lot of emoting, and it’s not terrible, so she has a ghost of a chance, but I think her heavy-duty tears might siphon some votes away from Alderson’s similarly teary performance, but I think Alderson’s acting is much more convincing.

Well I think Kristen Alderson should win. The ONLY reason i feel this way is becuae Woods and King reel’s bored me too tears. and Morgan just over-acted her ass off..Soo I hope Kristen FINALLY takes home that emmy…

I thought this would be another trip to mehville but these ladies, save for Morgan, turned in some solid work.  JMW and Alderson are in the lead.  I’ll go with Wood. Her performance was more natural and the reel told a mini story that was clear and defined.  I wont count out Kristen, she had her moments, but Wood should take it.
