    So, the previous thread
about what exits and returns we wanted got me thinking about GH
particularly.  As many of us pointed out
in that thread, and in other threads, GH is in the most need of a cast
overhaul, and of a refocus.  I started thinking
about who would be expendable and then about what families I wanted to either
beef up or bring back, so I listed my ideal cast and who I would get rid of:

    Ideal Contract Cast

    Vinessa Antoine

    Maurice Bernard

    Tyler Christopher

    Matt Cohen

    William DeVry

    Jane Elliot

    Genie Francis

    Nancy Lee Grahn

    Rebecca Herbst

    Roger Howarth

    Finola Hughes

    Lisa LoCicero

    Kelly Monaco

    Anthony Montgomery

    Tequan Richmond

    Emme Rylan

    Michelle Stafford

    Kirsten Storms

    Maura West

    Laura Wright

    Dominic Zamprogna

    Lexi Ainsworth

    Haley Pullos

    Ryan Carnes

    Ashley Jones

    Parry Shen

    Wally Kurth

    Adrienne Leon

    Greg Vaughan

    Robert Newman as Jimmy Lee
    Holt

    Robert Gorrie as Edward
    James (EJ) Holt

    Kelley Missal as Ashley
    Holt

    Corbin Bleu as Tommy Hardy
    Jr.

    Alicia Minshew as Sarah
    Horton

    Notable Recurring Players

    Robert Palmer Watkins

    Leslie Charleson

    Kathleen Gati

    Rick Hearst

    Carolyn Hennesy

    Lynn Hering

    Tristan Rogers

    Marc Anthony Samuel

    Kin Shriner

    Kristina Wagner

    John J. York

    Jacklyn Zeman

    Sonya Eddy

    Exits

    Rebecca Budig

    Teresa Castillo

    Bryan Craig

    Chad Duell

    Hayley Erin

    Billy Miller

    Ryan Paevey

    Brytni Sarpi

    Donnell Turner

    Michael Easton

    Richard Burgi

    Jeffrey Vincent Parisse

I guess my lists kind of
speak for themselves, but I wanted to expand a little.  With my additions, I really wanted to beef up
both the Quartermaine and the Webber/Hardy families.  Jimmy Lee Holt instantly came to mind, as he
is essentially a blank canvas, since we haven’t seen that character in 30
years.  He is Edward’s son and Tracy’s
brother, and could be someone new that moves into the Q mansion (and maybe a
love interest for Laura?).  I also
thought that because he hasn’t been seen or really heard of in 30 years, he
likely has children, so I gave him 2 children played by Robert Gorrie and
Kelley Missal.  My thought was that
Robert would be newly out of Med School, looking to start his residency, and
Monica has reached out to him and offered him a residency at GH.  The whole family goes too, as Jimmy Lee wants
to reconcile with his family after all this time and wants to check on Tracy,
as he has heard she is sick.

    Tommy Hardy Jr. is
Elizabeth and Sarah’s cousin and has ties to the original family of the
show.  Both of his parents were Doctors,
so my thought here is that he would also be newly out of med school and
starting his residency at GH.  It would
be great to have the next generation of the Quartermaines and Hardy’s at the
hospital and going against each other.  Maybe
we have Monica as their mentor and Tommy resents EJ because he thinks Monica is
giving him special treatment because he is a Quartermaine.

    I would also bring back
Sarah Webber, as played by Alicia Minshew (Terri Conn and Ali Sweeney came to
mind too).  I would have Sarah be a
no-nonsense doctor who can go toe-to-toe with the best of them and even gives
Obrecht a run for her money.  She worked
at the hospital her last time on screen, so it wouldn’t be much of a leap to
think she is now a doctor.  Since she was
involved with both Nicholas and Lucky before, I would try doing that as a triangle
again and seeing if it worked.  I
actually thought about having Nicholas exit too, but kept him on to try with
Sarah, and for the scenes with his family members.

    As far as the Corinthos
family goes, I would probably bring Michael and Morgan back eventually (I wouldn’t
want them killed off or anything), but I think those are two characters that
they have ruined and both need a long rest.
This would also help to re-center the show away from Sonny and
Carly.  I didn’t even suggest having them
exit because I know that would never happen and I think there is a way for them
to work if the focus is taken away from them and they’re put into new,
    non-mob-oriented directions.

    Additionally to round out
the Q family even more, bring back Ned and Brooklyn full time.  I also thought about having Olivia exit, but
I loved her and Ned so much before that I would keep her on and pair her with
Ned again.  It would be so refreshing to
see the Q mansion full again:  Monica,
Tracy, Dillon, Ned, Olivia, Brooklyn, Jimmy Lee and his 2 kids, and Danny and
Jake occasionally!  My main ideas were to
reinvigorate the Q family and to re-center on the hospital with people who
actually have ties to the show.  The
hospital would now have Brad, Lucas, Griffin, Andre, Sarah Webber, EJ Holt,
Tommy Hardy Jr., and Liz all on contract, and then Obrecht, Monica, Felix,
Epiphany all on recurring (but seen more often).  I also thought about possibly having Kristina
and Kelley Missal’s character in nursing school at GH and mentored by Liz!

I still like my idea to bring in Victoria Rowell as Jordan’s mother. Maybe make her the new oncology expert now that Silas is dead? I am not opposed to positioning the Ashford’s as a prominent family as I generally like the characters. I’d bring back Wally Kurth on full contract and I like the idea of Brooklyn coming back too. I’d keep Chad Duell just because he does play a Q, but I tend to agree the Morgan and Kiki characters are just played out and they lack focus. If they keep Kiki on, maybe have her hospital stay inspire her to become a nurse?

GHFan, my ideas are actually a lot like yours, but with a few variations. I would fix GH in the following ways:

    1. Reinvigorate the Quartermaine clan: I actually had the same idea about bringing on Jimmy Lee — and his son as a GH doctor. JL now goes by the name Quartermaine, as does his son. Also, Jason reclaims the Q name and moves into the mansion with his Quartermaine sons. Michael moves into the house as well. The Q mansion is full and alive with fun, romance, and intrigue not seen since the days of the Snyder Farm on ATWT.

    2. Tom Jr. returns as a doctor now in his 30s with a wife and two children. The Hardys become a core family.

    3. Ryan Carnes is put on contract and Lucas Jones becomes a major character.

    4. The show gradually shifts to focus primarily on the hospital and its staff. Conversely, the focus moves away from mobsters, supervillains, and other criminals.

    5. The writers repair the integrity of characters they have damaged.

    6. Once the show has successfully shifted its focus, write off characters who no longer have a place on the canvas. Bring back some of the actors as new characters who are connected to GH/core families and write them with long-term viability.

GH is in a serious rut. They don’t want to take any risks or make any real change. They are following a dated, tedious model. What I most want is characters to love and root for.

I really like your additions a lot. I’m not huge on the Ashfords though, so I’d be fine with ridding the show of TJ & Jordan. In regards to the exits (I bolded the ones we need to keep on the show):

Rebecca Budig- That’s fine. She is just too much trouble.

Teresa Castillo- This is fine also. Without Patrick, she is bland. We can find someone else for Michael. Maybe Ashley Holt?

Bryan Craig- Also fine. He is just too dramatic.

Chad Duell– NO! He is one of the best!!!!

Hayley Erin- Should be replaced by Kristen Alderson, but character should be kept.

Billy Miller– No reason why he should exit

    Ryan Paevey– ” “

Brytni Sarpi- Could not agree more!

Donnell Turner- Not an interesting enough character

Michael Easton– We haven’t even seen him yet, so we shouldn’t say he should exit yet

Richard Burgi- Interesting, but not a compelling enough character

Jeffrey Vincent Parisse- Needs to leave; too dramatic & too twisted a storyline

I never like to advocate for the departure of actors because I do not wish for anyone to lose his or her job. However, I think there are opportunities to cast current actors as new characters. For example, what if Ava really has a twin sister… not Denise, but a doctor who joins the GH staff as a doctor. Aside from Monica, where are the female doctors on GH?

I will say this again as it needs to be said: Rena Sofer needs to come back as Lois. I kind of like the idea of Lois being married to Jimmy Holt.   Maybe Jimmy is hell-bent on revenge against Tracey, and maybe he never told Lois about his connection to the Q’s?  This would instantly put Lois against Tracey again, and set up a potential triangle between Lois/Ned/Jimmy.

Also, since Monica married Alan in the 70’s we never really heard much about her blood relatives, perhaps Monica has a few younger siblings running around somewhere who could come cause havoc in PC or move into the mansion? Maybe she has younger nieces and nephews?

Also, I think it might be time for Robert Scorpio to resurface with a new wife and kids.  Perhaps his wife is now a doctor at GH and he has some teenage children. Perhaps one of them, a son is a bit of a troublemaker and gets arrested and finds himself immersed in the mob, perhaps working for Sonny, setting up a Robert/Sonny feud?

Are Wally Kurth and Rena Sofer able to be in front of a camera together though a la Jack and Kristina Wagner? I’d love to have Sofer back but only if the actors are comfortable with it.

I do know I would probablly get rid of Olivia in favor of Lois. And if we keep the Jerome family we need to bring in a patriarch and matriarch to center them and cement them as a core family.        I kind of like the idea of a revived Helena marrying Ava and Julian’s uncle or father, I’m not too sure of the history of their parents, but its GH they could easily find a way to bring a father or uncle on.     The jerome’s could become like the Dimera’s on DOOL.

I have no idea. It has been a large number of years since they were divorced so I cannot imagine they would still harbor much resentment toward each other.    But even if they can’t work together, I can’t see why Rena couldn’t be paired with another character.   Lois and Paul Hornsby maybe? That would still put her directly against Tracey.

it would also seem to make sense to me that now would be the time to recast Jenny and Sly and bring them back to the canvas.  Jenny could be written as a more hard character than in the past since she’s been married to Paul for over 20 years.  She may come back to PC seeking to ger revenge on Paul now.   And Sly could be written as having learned from Paul how to manipulate and scheme people.   My thought is that they could  use Sly and Paul in an ELQ storyline.   Paul wants to take control of ELQ from Tracy and recruits Sly to pose as a new hire to try and gain control from Tracy, Tracy thinks shes using Sly to get control from Paul and Sly betrays them both and takes control for himself.

Given what Rena Sofer is getting over at B&B and what a good deal that generally seems to be for the actors who the show actually uses, I don’t think GH could possibly lure her back, unfortunately for them.
